Lead the White’s Way

Our leaders set the standard the red vests follow. At White's, leaders work the floor with their team, coach in the moment, and own how every shift goes.

White's is an independently owned Ace store, run by the White family since 1977. All three of our stores run to one standard, and our leaders are the ones who keep it.

What you'll do

Run the garden center at this store. Help customers choose what will actually grow for them, lead and coach the garden team, keep plants healthy and displays ready, manage ordering and work with vendors. Watch what sells and adjust. Garden season means a lot of hands-on, outdoor work. In the off-season, the garden center moves inside and you'll work the main sales floor with the rest of the team.

Who this work suits

This is a people job as much as a plant job. We need someone who can lead a team, take full responsibility for the department, and talk comfortably with customers about their garden projects. [HR: state the plant and team-lead experience actually required.] The best fits enjoy the customers and the team as much as the plants.

• Your leadership shows up in everyone's check. The team bonus rides on customer service, operations and training, and the garden center is a big part of all three.
• A team bonus twice a year. When your store hits its sales growth target and its goals, the whole team shares in it, up to two weeks' pay.
• Raises you can see coming. A pay review every year, based on customer service, operations and training goals posted in the breakroom.
• Time off that grows with you. One week of paid vacation after 60 days, two weeks at three years, three weeks at five. Spring is our busiest season, so vacations aren't scheduled April 10 to June 15.
• Paid sick time. 40 hours a year once you've been with us 60 days.
• Paid holidays. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. We also close at 5 p.m. on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
• A real employee discount. 15% off regular-priced items, and cost plus 3% on anything $50 or more, for you and the family you live with.
• Retirement savings. A SIMPLE IRA with a company match of up to 3% of your pay once you qualify for the plan.

Pay reviews, bonus, paid time off and benefits begin after your first 60 days.
