Position Overview
The Controller will oversee the daily financial operations of the firm while also serving as a strategic financial partner to executive leadership and the CFO. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, FP&A, operational analysis, and process improvement.
The ideal candidate will be highly analytical, organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment.
This individual should be comfortable working both strategically and hands-on.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Oversight
- Manage and oversee daily accounting operations
- Maintain general ledger and ensure financial accuracy
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Oversee AP, AR, reconciliations, payroll coordination, and cash flow management
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, policies, and internal controls
- Assist with audits, tax preparation, and financial reporting requirements
- Provide direct financial support and reporting to the CFO
FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis)
- Develop financial forecasts, budgeting models, and operational projections
- Build and maintain proformas for growth initiatives and operational planning
- Analyze revenue trends, department performance, staffing costs, and profitability
- Provide executive leadership and the CFO with strategic financial insights and recommendations
- Create reporting dashboards and KPI analytics to support decision-making
- Monitor financial performance against budgets and identify improvement opportunities
Strategic & Operational Finance
- Partner with executive leadership and the CFO on operational and growth strategies
- Identify areas for financial efficiency and process improvement
- Assist with workforce planning and departmental budgeting
- Help scale systems and reporting processes as the organization grows
- Support multi-office operational financial tracking and analysis
Systems & Technology
Preferred experience with:
- DOMO Reporting & Analytics
- Filevine
- Financial dashboard reporting systems
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling
- HRIS and operational systems integration experience is a plus
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 3+ years of Controller, Senior Accounting, or Financial Leadership experience
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Experience building and analyzing proformas
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
- Strong organizational and analytical abilities
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment
- Strong communication and leadership skills
Preferred:
- Law firm experience strongly preferred
- Personal Injury law firm experience highly preferred
- FP&A experience preferred
- Experience with DOMO preferred
- Experience with Filevine preferred
- Experience working in a multi-location organization preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- CPA or MBA is a plus, but not required

Compensation & Benefits
Compensation:
$80,000 – $100,000 annually
(Compensation based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit)

Requirements
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, FP&A, or Financial Leadership role
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred
- Law firm experience strongly preferred
- Personal Injury law firm experience highly preferred
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and general ledger management
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis
- Experience creating and analyzing proformas and operational financial models
- FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis) experience preferred
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required, including financial modeling and reporting
- Experience with DOMO reporting and analytics preferred
- Experience with Filevine preferred
- Experience with financial dashboards, KPI reporting, and operational analytics preferred
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong leadership, accountability, and decision-making abilities
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating with executive leadership
- Experience working in a multi-office or rapidly growing organization is a plus
- CPA, MBA, or advanced financial certifications are a plus, but not required
- Must be proactive, solutions-oriented, and able to identify opportunities for operational and financial improvement
- Must be comfortable reporting directly to executive leadership and the Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
