Job Description
Summary: The Village of Hanover Park is seeking an Engineering Intern to support the Engineering Division in the Public Works Department. This role is designed for undergraduate or graduate-level college students to gain practical experience in engineering through assisting with plan reviews, inspections, and various engineering projects.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the engineering staff with engineering plan reviews and inspections, measuring quantities, drainage investigations, preparing reports and calculations, and performing research
- Assist with projects involving roadway paving, water mains, sanitary sewers, storm water systems, sidewalks, and street light improvements for public and private construction
- Conduct general office work, such as scanning and filing
- Adhere to all Village policies and procedures within the department and as outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality, and demonstrate a strong work ethic
- Follow all safety regulations, policies, and procedures. Report all unsafe conditions and acts to your supervisor. Report all accidents immediately whenever possible, but no later than the end of the work shift. Follow recognized safe work practices
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned that are reasonably within the scope of the duties listed above
Required Qualifications:
- Skill with Microsoft Excel and Word
- Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to develop reports and analyze data through computer applications
- Ability to make complex engineering computations, and to prepare and interpret engineering plans and specifications
- Working knowledge of basic civil engineering principles, including trigonometry and higher mathematics used in engineering practices
- A High School diploma or general education degree (GED), and preferably be enrolled in an accredited college or university, majoring in Civil or Environmental engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
- Must possess and maintain in good standing, a valid Illinois driver's license
- Must be willing to conduct outdoor site visits, sometimes in adverse weather conditions; perform moderate lifting up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis; and be able to drive a Village passenger vehicle
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Auto CAD
