Commis Chef / Kitchen Team Member at Village Hotels · Walsall

The Role Outline: Your Shift at a Glance As our Commis Chef, you are the foundation of the kitchen. You are not here to write strategy; you are here to learn, prep, and support the Head Chef and Sous Chef during service. This is your chance to get your hands dirty, master the basics, and start building a real culinary career in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. Why Village? At Village, we do hospitality a little differently. We are all about personality, genuine connections, and creating great experiences for our guests and each other. That is why we back our teams to be themselves, take ownership, learn new skills, and grow their careers. Previous experience is great, but your attitude and energy matter much more to us. If you are friendly, positive, love working with people, and enjoy being part of a busy brigade, we will give you all the support, training, and opportunities you need. Because it really does take a Village. How the Village Thrives We live our culture through three simple commitments: We Can & We Do: We show up to make a genuine difference and do fantastic work every day, with purpose. We Will: Treat each other with respect and dignity. No ego, no drama. We try our best and look out for each other. We Care: We care about our impact on guests, the community, and each other. Your Shift: What You Will Actually Be Doing We trust you to handle: The Prep & The Line: Delivering a smooth flow of work. You will assist the chefs on your section, controlling portion sizes, checking temperatures, and ensuring every plate looks exactly to company specification. The Standards: Maintaining absolute cleanliness. You will adhere strictly to our food hygiene regulations, FRESH, HACCP, and EHO directives to keep a professional, safe, and spotless working environment. The Product: Knowing the menu. You will ensure you have tasted and tested your knowledge on every dish before it launches so you know exactly what you are cooking. The Teamwork: Keeping communication clear. You will report equipment faults, minimise waste, and establish clear lines of communication with the restaurant and banqueting teams to keep service moving. How We Succeed Together We do not micromanage. It takes a village, so we believe in Ownership & Integrity, giving you the autonomy to handle your section and make decisions on the fly. We Empower & Elevate our people. If you want Room to Grow, we provide funded qualifications and internal moves to help you step up to Chef de Partie and beyond. Selling Our Benefits Health & Wellbeing: Complimentary full leisure club membership for you and a friend (worth £1,500 annually), a monthly well-being programme, and an Employee Assistance Programme. Hotel Stays: Discounted stays from £35 based on two sharing, plus a Holiday Purchase scheme. Food & Drink: 50% discount on Food and Drink purchased on or off shift at any Village Hotel. Financial & Extras: Financial wellbeing support via Wagestream, High Street discounts, an Electric car salary sacrifice scheme, and your birthday off guaranteed. Think You Have Got the Right Energy? We are not looking for perfect CVs, we are looking for great people. If you have a passion for food, the resilience to handle a busy kitchen, and the desire to learn from a brilliant brigade, we want to hear from you. Bring your personality, your drive, and your ambition. Hit apply, tell us why you want to cook with us, and let's see if our energies align.
