Assistant Editor, Visuals at The New York Times in Seoul, Korea
Job Description
The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.
We’re looking for a senior editor to lead our visual journalism across Asia, driving the execution of new forms of storytelling and overseeing a team of graphics and multimedia journalists. This role is based in the Times’ Seoul newsroom.
Visual journalists at The Times have investigated how China built a great wall of villages along its frontier and strong-armed its way into dominating the South China Sea, documented the Myanmar military’s campaign of terror against its own people and Taliban rule in Afghanistan, and reconstructed South Korean president’s botched martial law bid. They have revealed how drones have transformed the war in Ukraine. They have also devised ambitious multimedia approaches to explain the far-reaching impact of the Iran war, air pollution in India and American households’ reliance on Chinese goods.
We want to do more of these kinds of stories. And we want to continue to transform how we work to bring visual reporting and editing into the core of how we show readers the world and hold power accountable.
