POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Globe and Mail is seeking a Regina-based reporter to join our national news team.

As an agricultural powerhouse and a hub for energy and mining, Saskatchewan is a pillar of the Canadian economy, and sits at the centre of some of the country’s most consequential issues, from climate policy and Indigenous rights to the West’s relationship with Ottawa and the U.S. trade war. This is an opportunity for a driven and ambitious journalist who wants to help Canadians understand the forces shaping Saskatchewanians and the wider impact on the country.

We are looking for a reporter with a demonstrated ability to break news, produce clear and compelling original pieces and develop high-impact coverage. Curiosity, versatility and collaboration are a must.

The successful candidate will work with reporters in our bureaus across the country on business, politics and national news stories.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Frequently pitch fresh, compelling story ideas
• Develop sources to break news and produce exclusive stories
• Write clearly and on deadline
• Work with colleagues across the department and wider newsroom to brainstorm story ideas as well as the best way to tell them
• Think beyond standard storytelling formats and participate in Globe subscriber events

QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least five years experience reporting for a news organization
• Interest and experience covering politics and business
• Flair for telling stories in Saskatchewan that will resonate beyond the province
• Strong writing with versatile range - from hard news to human-interest feature to explanatory
• Solid news judgment with a track record of enterprise work
• Comfortable working in a variety of formats, including live blogs, newsletters, video and audio

This position is fully remote, based in Regina. Candidates must be able to travel regularly on assignment.

APPLICATION: Please include a cover letter, with three links to your previous work, along with your resume (that is written by you, not AI). Our promise to readers is that the best work comes from our own (human) curiosity and creativity - we’d like to see yours.

SALARY: This position is classified as a Reporter in Group C of the Editorial Collective Agreement.
