The assistant department manager is responsible for supervising staff and ensuring the smooth operation of the department’s daily activities, including merchandising, loss/fraud management, standards compliance and customer service. They assist the manager with management of inventory, purchasing, and the department’s profitability in collaboration with management.

Here’s where you’ll be focusing:

Carry out day-to-day management activities within the department in collaboration with the department manager.

Provide team members with the necessary feedback to ensure their professional development and achieve established objectives.

Adhere to the banner’s standards and maintain its image.

Work with cashiers to provide exceptional customer service.

Apply policies and procedures, comply with government health guidelines and occupational health and safety standards, and ensure they are consistently applied and adhered to by all department employees.

Organize and participate in training sessions and motivate team members.

Create a work environment that promotes trust and communication within your team.

Manage loss prevention (waste, theft, loss of inventory, breakage) in collaboration with the department manager.

Adhere to department budgets.

Perform any other related duties.

What you have to offer:

You have a high school diploma; a college diploma would be an asset.

You have at least two years of years of experience in a retail environment or in the applicable department.

You have valuable management experience and knowledge of point-of-sale computer systems.

You are customer service-oriented.

You foster communication and team spirit.

You are proficient with basic accounting operations.

You stand out for your leadership, energy and creativity.

Flexible work hours and ability to work overtime

Short-term exposure to chemicals and cleaning products

Ability to stand for extended periods of time

Ability to lift up to 20 kg
