Accountant (m/f/d) – Finance Operations at smatch in Munich, On-site

As we scale, we bring the same AI-first mindset to our own finance operations – and we're looking for an Accountant who wants to build that with us.

You will own our day-to-day accounting and VAT and make it smarter step by step: using AI and system integrations, you automate manual processes and help build the accounting function of a growing international trading business.

• Accounting: Book incoming and outgoing invoices, process payments, reconcile accounts and support month-end and year-end close
• Automation: Turn manual steps into clean, scalable workflows with AI tools, APIs and no-code solutions
• VAT & Compliance: Own German VAT returns, EC sales lists and foreign VAT filings across our international B2B business.
• Inventory: Help build inventory accounting and valuation from the ground up as we scale.
• Partnership: Work closely with our tax advisors, external payroll provider and internal teams

About you

• Completed vocational training with a focus on accounting or tax (e.g. Steuerfachangestellte/r) or a completed degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
• Ideally around 2 years of experience in accounting or at a tax firm – Bilanzbuchhalter qualification is a plus
• Solid understanding of bookkeeping and VAT, ideally including international B2B transactions
• A passion for tech: you have automated something before, use AI tools in your daily work, or want to understand how systems talk to each other via APIs
• Confident use of accounting software (e.g. DATEV) and Excel/Google Sheets
• Curiosity, initiative and attention to detail – you enjoy improving things, not just processing them
• Startup experience is a plus
• Fluent German and English
• Based in Munich or willing to relocate
