Job Description
Summary: Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking a professional and innovative Mechanical Engineering Intern who can work part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer. The role involves supporting mechanical engineering staff, performing design reviews, and updating SolidWorks models and drawings.
Responsibilities:
- Provide support for mechanical engineering staff as needed:
- Perform and document Design for Manufacturability reviews providing feedback as required
- Support manufacturing time estimating and quoting efforts
- Design of machined, sheet metal, plastic, and die cast parts
- Tolerance, return on investment (ROI), thermal, and structural analysis
- Update SolidWorks models and drawings
- Data entry of technical information into company databases (MS Access, Lotus Notes, SolidWorks)
- Follow mechanical development and quality assurance procedures
Required Qualifications:
- Pursuing a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering with one to two years engineering education completed
- Can conduct defined testing procedures
- Enjoy working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Have strong problem-solving skills
- Have working knowledge of MS Office Applications or equivalent
- Have one year SolidWorks Experience (or equivalent CAD software)
- Have experience with standard machining and sheet metal manufacturing processes
- Have strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
- Can learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
- Can work cooperatively in a team environment
- Have background check results satisfactory to SEL
- Have negative drug test result(s)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience filing engineering documentation
- Finite element analysis experience a plus
