Job Description
Summary: Pulaski County Special School District operates public schools and provides educational services to students, including those with disabilities. The Individual Support Para will support teachers and certified personnel by providing instructional, behavioral, physical, and medical assistance to students with disabilities under appropriate supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one on one instruction or group instruction under the supervision of a certified teacher
- Implement behavior management techniques as directed by teacher/building principal
- Assist with the physical needs including but not limited to feeding, toileting, dressing, catheterization, physical management, etc. of the student. Some heavy lifting of the student is required
- Administer medications and other medical supports as prescribed and directed by the school nurse
- Complete daily work schedules as assigned by the teacher/principal
- Assist the teacher with the maintenance of the classroom
- Assist with duties such as the lunchroom, recess, buses for the student(s)
- Be aware of Board of Education policies, district and school guidelines, and regulations and adhere to the same
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma/GED and one of the following:
- Completed 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university
- Obtained an associate's degree (or higher)
- Passed a paraprofessional academic assessment test
- Ability to work with special needs students
