Rocksteady Music School is the UK’s biggest employer of full-time, permanent musicians. We teach in-school rock and pop band lessons to primary age children. We’re a community of musicians and music-lovers, on a mission to remove barriers to music education so that no child gets left behind. We’re currently in thousands of schools in the UK, teaching over 100,000 children every week – and we’re growing fast. Join us as a band leader and your passion will inspire the next generation.
Our band leaders often come from diverse backgrounds so we know you might not currently be working in a music-related role or have any teaching experience. If you can bring the right combination of musical ability, passion for our purpose and enthusiasm for learning, then we can offer the training you need to succeed in this role.
As a band leader you will:
- Teach groups of primary-age children in a fun, inspiring rock and pop band format in up to 10 schools per week.
- Give children their first opportunity to learn an instrument – you’ll be teaching drums, guitar, bass, keyboard and vocals.
- Work independently as part of a remote team of band leaders, the biggest team of like-minded musicians in the UK, with the support of our central teams too.
- Be a rock and pop star role-model, empowering and supporting children in primary schools to deliver live performances at their end-of-term concerts.
- Help children develop their self-belief, resilience and wellbeing through performing in a band.
- Represent Rocksteady, building strong relationships with schools, teachers and parents.
- Be prepared for highly active days and to spend time on the road driving between schools. You’ll need to load and unload your band equipment, set-up and pack away in each location.
As a band leader you’ll need:
- To be competent on at least two of the following instruments: drums, guitar, bass, keyboard and vocals.
- The enthusiasm to learn how to teach band lessons and complete our extensive training programme before you start your timetable.
- The resilience to work in a role that provides some of your greatest moments and biggest challenges – often all in the same day!
- The confidence to be yourself at work, be proud of your uniqueness and communicate equally well with children, teachers and parents.
- The integrity to always promote the safety and well-being of children and young people.
- To be an organised, independent worker, with good time management and administration skills.
- A UK/EU driving licence and your own transport. This role requires you to use your own car to transport equipment and drive between schools.
We appreciate that previous experience does not always tell the full story, so if you like the sound of this role, don’t rule yourself out if you feel you don’t tick all the boxes.
Benefits
- Full-time, salaried position.
- Work Monday – Friday, daytimes only.
- 11+ weeks paid holiday per year.
- Fuel contribution – 50p per business mile.
- We provide an annual contribution towards the cost of your vehicle service and MOT, helping you maintain a safe and roadworthy vehicle.
- Annual staff bonus - £1,500 per annum.
- Long service award: an additional 4 weeks’ pay after 5 years
- Full training in our progressive teaching methodologies.
- Comprehensive benefits package, including discounts on everyday purchases and free 24/7 GP service.
- Enhanced maternity and paternity pay.
- Celebratory staff away-days, Christmas parties and social events.
- Opportunities to work with the Rocksteady Foundation, reaching children and young people in charities and support groups across the UK.
Every once in a while, you get the chance to be part of something really special. When you join Rocksteady, you know immediately that you’ve found it. Likeminded people are joining us all over the country and we’re reaching more and more children with our lessons every week. We keep growing because we’re driven by our passion for the life-changing nature of music. Ready to join us? This is your time to use your talents for good.
