About MotherDuck

Don’t let the quirky name fool you: At MotherDuck, we’re on a mission to make data warehousing fun, frictionless, and ducking awesome for developers and data practitioners building blazing fast internal and customer-facing analytics experiences. We're building a cloud-hosted version of DuckDB, working hand-in-hand with the creators of the fastest-growing and fastest-improving query engine on the planet. Unlike other databases, MotherDuck was architected to unify local development with cloud operations to bridge the gap between software and data engineering workflows. Our team is a mix of thoughtful, passionate, and empathetic data industry veterans.

What you will do

We’re looking for a Product Marketer who lives at the intersection of words, product, and customers. You’ll take what our engineers build and turn it into stories that make developers and data teams lean in. You’ll own positioning and messaging, write the pages people actually read, and make sure our sales team walks into every conversation ready.

This role can be based in our Seattle, San Francisco or New York City office.

Key responsibilities

• Write. A lot. Website copy, landing pages, launch posts, product one-pagers, emails. You care about every word and you know when to cut.

• Help shape how we tell our story. Work alongside product, sales, and leadership on who we’re for, why we’re different, and how to say it in a way a data engineer won’t roll their eyes at... then keep it fresh as the product and market evolve.

• Build the web and the artifacts. Ship landing pages, comparison pages, demos and interactive assets... ideally hands-on with AI tools rather than waiting in a queue for design and eng.

• Arm the sales team. Create battlecards, pitch decks, objection handling, and competitive takes that AEs and Customer Engineers actually use in deals. Sit in on calls and bring what you hear back into the messaging.

• Run launches. Plan and ship product launches end to end with product, engineering, DevRel and growth.

• Stay close to customers and the market. Talk to users, track competitors (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery and friends), and turn what you learn into sharper stories.

• Work AI-first. Use Claude and other tools to research, draft, prototype and ship. Help set the bar for how marketing at MotherDuck uses AI.

What you bring

• 3 to 10 years in product marketing, ideally at a B2B software or developer-focused company

• Excellent writing. Clear, punchy, and specific... you can make a technical idea land in one sentence

• A real knack for positioning: you've taken a product to market and can show the before and after

• Experience building web pages and landing pages, and comfort shipping them yourself with modern tools

• A track record of sales enablement that sales teams actually used

• Genuine curiosity about technical products. You don't need to write SQL for a living, but you want to understand how the thing works

• AI fluency. You already use AI daily to do better work, and you're excited to push that further

• A bias for action. You'd rather ship a good version this week than a perfect one next quarter

What people should be saying if you’re doing ducking awesome

• “I sent the new landing page to a prospect and they replied ‘this is exactly our problem.’ Didn’t have to explain a thing.”

• “Honestly, I understand our own feature better after reading the launch post.”

• “The battlecard came up in the call and I had the answer before they finished the question.”

• “They showed me a workflow they built with AI last week and now half of marketing uses it.”

What we provide

• Feather-ruffling compensation – competitive salary and stock options so you have a stake in our flock’s success.

• Top-notch healthcare coverage – 100% paid medical, dental, and vision for employees, plus 80% coverage for dependents (because we care about your whole nest).

• Flexible PTO – take the time you need to recharge, explore, or just have a lazy day by the pond.

• 401k plan – because even ducks need to plan for the future.

• Flexible work environment - spend most of the week in the office collaborating with the flock, and work from wherever you're most productive the rest of the time. Specifics are role dependent and as agreed upon with your manager

Why MotherDuck

We're a ~110-person, Series B team building on one of the fastest-growing open source projects in data. We're small enough that your work shows up on the website next week, and growing fast enough that there's always something new to figure out.

How we work comes down to four values:

• Thoughtfulness. We care about the people we work with and the craft behind what we ship.

• Flexibility. Plans change. We adapt without drama.

• Unorthodoxy. We question the default way of doing things, including in marketing.

• Agency. We own outcomes and don't wait for permission.

Please Apply

Does this role sound appealing to you, but you’re missing some of the requirements or don’t quite think you’re qualified? Please apply anyway. Research has shown that underrepresented groups in technology often shy away from roles which aren’t a 100% match. We aim to build a diverse team and will strongly consider applicants who bring many of the requirements plus have other experiences which round out their qualifications.
