Description
The HR Coordinator is responsible for managing the day-to-day operational functions of the HR department with a focus on employee relations, HRIS data integrity, payroll processing, and benefits administration. This position requires an exceptionally organized, detail-oriented professional who is adept at handling sensitive employee matters with discretion and consistency. The HR Coordinator must be capable of relating to individuals at all levels of the organization and must be sensitive to corporate needs, employee goodwill, and business objectives.

Employee Relations
• Act as a primary employee relations resource; inform managers on employee disciplinary actions, performance concerns, and conflict resolution in a legally compliant and consistent manner.
• Coordinate and track all employee disciplinary actions; maintain accurate and confidential documentation of all employee relations matters.
• Monitor employee attendance and ensure proper documentation is issued for excessive tardiness or absenteeism; report vacation, sick, and holiday use to payroll and scheduling.
• Distribute and monitor employee performance evaluations, ensuring they are completed in a timely manner at 90 days, six months, one year, and annually thereafter.
• Update, monitor, and maintain eligible salary adjustments and increases based on evaluation milestones.
• Maintain and process all garnishments, child support orders, verifications of employment, and Unemployment Notices of Entitlement and potential charges; attend unemployment hearings when necessary.
• Report, maintain, and monitor all workers’ compensation case files; follow up on open cases to ensure timely resolution.
• Maintain employee personnel files in accordance with governing regulations and company policy.
• Maintain and coordinate employee recognition programs.
Payroll & HRIS
• Process biweekly payroll accurately and on schedule; track probationary periods, annual reviews, new hires, terminations, and changes in wage, title, department, and supervisory responsibilities.
• Maintain HRIS data integrity; ensure all employee records, status changes, and organizational updates are accurately entered and maintained in the system.
• Maintain, update, and distribute the employee phone directory; ensure accuracy and timely updates upon any workforce changes.
Benefits Administration
• Administer all health and welfare benefit plans, including enrollments, changes, and terminations; process required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record keeping and proper deductions.
• Monitor employee eligibility for benefits plans; review benefits with employees and process enrollment, cancellation, or change requests.
• Organize and facilitate the annual open enrollment communication and election process; maintain and distribute lists of enrolled and cancelled employees under each benefit plan.
• Verify benefit billing accuracy and process invoices for payment.
• Administer COBRA for group health plans in compliance with federal requirements.
• Counsel employees on benefit plan provisions so that individuals can make informed decisions about their coverage.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee primarily works in an office setting. At times the employee will interact with employees in plant and mining environments and may be exposed to dirt, slurry, mud, hazardous chemicals, noise, dust, and other conditions normally found in active mining and industrial mineral processing facilities. The employee must be able to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) as provided by the company and as safe conditions require.

The employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, sit, talk, and hear.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, exempt position. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional additional hours may be required during peak periods such as open enrollment, payroll processing deadlines, or critical employee relations matters.
Travel
Occasional local travel to company worksites may be required.
Requirements
Required Education and Experience
• 1–2 years of experience in benefits administration, payroll processing, and employee relations
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent years of experience
• Experience with HRIS platforms and payroll systems
Preferred Education and Experience
• Human resources experience in mining, industrial, or operations-focused industries
• 3–5 years of HR Coordinator experience with a focus on employee relations and benefits
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
• SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification preferred.
