Senior Editor

Primary Function:

The Senior Editor is responsible for overseeing and editing assigned news and editorial content for MBN, ensuring accuracy, clarity, fairness, and consistency with MBN's journalistic standards. The role involves exercising strong editorial judgment, coordinating coverage, meeting deadlines, and mentoring junior editors and journalists to maintain high-quality journalism and efficient newsroom workflows.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead the editing of a wide range of editorial content, including features, in-depth reports, analysis, interviews, news stories, and breaking news.
• Review and edit articles for accuracy, clarity, structure, balance, and consistency with MBN's editorial standards.
• Collaborate with reporters, editors, producers, and other newsroom teams to ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality content.
• Uphold MBN's Journalistic Code of Ethics and editorial standards, ensuring proper sourcing, fact-checking, and fair reporting.
• Exercise sound news judgment, identify editorial priorities, and contribute to daily news coverage and story development.
• Manage multiple assignments and meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
• Provide mentorship, constructive feedback, and guidance to junior and mid-level editors and journalists to improve editorial quality and performance.
• Oversee assigned editorial workflows, from story development and editing through final approval and publication, ensuring efficiency and quality.
• Coordinate with remote teams and use content management systems and collaborative editorial tools effectively.
• Stay informed about major news developments, company communications, editorial priorities, and newsroom procedures.
• Participate in editorial meetings, contribute story ideas, and offer recommendations on coverage, headlines, and editorial approaches.
• Ensure consistency in writing style, terminology, headlines, and editorial presentation across assigned content.

Other Duties:

Perform additional job-related duties and take on new responsibilities as needed based on organizational requirements and circumstances.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Minimum of 7 years of professional journalism experience, with a strong background in editing news, features, in-depth reports, and analysis.
• Excellent writing and editing skills in both Arabic and English, with a strong command of journalistic style, grammar, accuracy, and clarity.
• Strong editorial judgment and a thorough understanding of news reporting, storytelling, fact-checking, and sourcing standards.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring journalists and editors and providing constructive editorial feedback.
• Ability to identify strong story angles, improve story structure, and develop clear, compelling headlines.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with reporters, editors, and other newsroom teams.
• Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and make editorial decisions under pressure.
• High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, fairness, and journalistic integrity.

Preferred:

• Experience in digital journalism, including online publishing and content management systems (CMS).
• Experience editing investigative journalism, long-form features, and enterprise reporting.
• Familiarity with digital publishing standards, audience engagement, and multimedia storytelling.
• Experience coordinating editorial coverage across teams and locations, including remote collaboration when needed.
• Fluency in Arabic is highly desirable; strong working knowledge is a significant plus.
