Business Development Associate at Max Borges Agency in Remote

We are looking for a hungry, self-motivated hunter to help identify and open doors to new PR opportunities with Consumer Tech & Lifestyle brands. You'll research exciting brands, connect with key decision-makers, conduct unique/personable outreach, and build meaningful relationships that create new business opportunities for the agency.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is ambitious, resourceful, and eager to develop their sales skills while working alongside an experienced business development team.

What you'll do:

• Connect with brands that make cool stuff. Be at the forefront of categories including consumer tech, health + wellness, home + kitchen, audio + home theater, travel + outdoors, and many more. Constantly study the industry landscape and stay on top of the latest innovative consumer products, emerging brands, key players, and relevant trends.

• Research prospective clients, identify key decision-makers, source accurate contact information, and develop strategic target lists based on our areas of expertise and opportunities for growth.

• Initiate conversations through creative, personalized outreach via email, LinkedIn, phone, and other relevant channels. Find unique ways to get our foot in the door.

• Build and nurture relationships with prospective clients, maintaining consistent and meaningful communication to stay top of mind.

• Identify and qualify new business opportunities, helping turn initial conversations into meetings with senior members of the agency team.

• Learn to effectively communicate the value of earned media and the advantages brands gain by partnering with a highly specialized agency.

• Leverage agency resources, case studies, and relevant client successes to strengthen outreach and advance conversations.

• Stay organized and maintain accurate records of outreach, prospect activity, and follow-ups within our CRM.

• Support relationship building with relevant industry partners, including other noncompetitive agencies, and organizations that can create referral opportunities.

• Collaborate with senior team members to advance promising opportunities and gain exposure to the broader sales process.

• 0–2 years of experience in sales, business development, marketing, or a related field. Experience in PR, advertising, or professional services is a plus.

• Hunter mentality – comfortable initiating conversations, cold emailing/calling, networking, and finding creative ways to connect with people.

• Self-starter who is highly ambitious, entrepreneurial, and motivated to build a career in sales.

• Scrappy, resourceful, and persistent. Willing to put in the work to find the right people and create opportunities.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build rapport and make a positive first impression.

• Naturally curious and interested in innovative consumer products, brands, marketing, and emerging industry trends.

• Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple prospects, outreach efforts, and follow-ups simultaneously.

• Comfortable with rejection and able to maintain a positive, persistent attitude.

• Familiarity with LinkedIn, CRM platforms, and prospecting tools is a plus.

• Must be coachable, open to constructive feedback, and thrive in a collaborative team environment.

Some advice for how to be successful at MBA:

We hire, promote and fire people based on these core values. They act as a compass for all communications and decision making.

• Think Like An Entrepreneur: Know the details of our business and understand how you impact our culture, work and financial success.
• Adopt a Growth Mindset: Don’t settle or become complacent. Grow by taking advantage of opportunities to do work outside your comfort zone.
• Take Initiative: Do not wait for someone to tell you what to do. Act in the absence of specific direction. Be proactive and decisive.
• Act with Purpose: Focus on impact above all else. Know the intended result, find the most efficient path, and get shit done.
• Communicate Assertively: Proactively tackle difficult conversations with empathy and confidence. Give and request feedback in real-time with helpful intent.
• Inspire Accountability: Embrace ownership of every task. Surface your mistakes. Share what you learn and use it to improve. Others will do the same.

Other things we think would be cool if you could do:

• Run a 5k in under 25 minutes
  • We have 2 or 3 people that can do this, but we have a couple Ironman athletes (including Max), a few marathoners and a mountain biker who does 80+ mile races. Lots of yogis too.
• Solve a Rubik's cube in under a minute
  • We had an intern that could and it was mind-blowing.
• Bowl a 300
• Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro
  • Our VP of Operations did this, only blacked-out from high altitude and oxygen deprivation once. Nailed it.
• Be a world champion in anything
  • Youngest Yo-Yo World Champion in history worked with us for years.
• Start your own business
  • Max did...and one guy owns his own photography business...the rest of us are working on it.
• A snake shot (Foosball)
  • Google it. No spinning.

Work hard, play hard is slightly outdated and work life balance implies some sort of struggle to do one and not the other. We think work should be a fun, beneficial, and enjoyable part of your life and that your life should be a fun, beneficial, and enjoyable part of your work. We try our best to provide benefits that make this a reality, and the daily transition and integration of work & life as seamless as possible.
