Job Description
Summary: Kiewit is seeking a dynamic Entry-Level Structural Engineer to join their Design Engineering Services Group. The role involves contributing to engineering teams, developing plans, and ensuring compliance with design standards for high-risk projects.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to engineering and CADD teams in developing preliminary and final plans and details
- Identify and understand the technical requirements of high-risk projects and implement engineering principles to develop solutions
- Identify, interpret, and apply appropriate design standards and codes; ensure compliance with contract documents
- Participate in technical meetings and discussions, and strategize solutions to complex or unique technical problems
- Identify and implement new technologies that provide a competitive advantage
- Identify technical differentiators and develop schemes for key project pursuits
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with Kiewit and/or project-specific Quality Management plans
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree or greater in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering
- 0–2 years experience in relevant structural engineering design
- 0–2 years experience in engineering plan production and preparation of engineering calculations, be highly technically competent and familiar with current tools/programs/software, and CADD production practice
- Strong all-around theoretical knowledge of structural engineering principles
- Experience with the design of multiple bridge types in concrete and steel, and knowledge of staged construction analysis
- Experience with AASHTO LRFD, AISC, ACI, CAN/CSA S-6, and other North American design codes
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Strong people skills and an ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Ability to travel as business requires
- Regular, reliable attendance
- Work productively and meet deadlines timely
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
- Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies
- Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preferred experience with engineering design software, i.e. programs such as LUSAS, SOFiSTiK, MIDAS, etc
