Job: QA/QC Inspector

Reports to: Quality Manager

Job Summary The QA/QC Inspector performs in-process and final inspections of fabricated, welded, structural, and piping assemblies. This position ensures work complies with applicable codes, approved drawings, customer specifications, project requirements, internal procedures, and Epsilon Industries’ Quality Management System (“QMS”).

The QA/QC Inspector works closely with Production, Welding, Engineering, Project Management, and Quality personnel to identify and resolve quality concerns, maintain accurate inspection records, and promote continuous improvement. This is a fully on-site position. The employee will complete a minimum 90-day on-site training period at Epsilon Industries’ Tuscaloosa, Alabama facility and will receive a per diem of $500 per week during the training period. Upon completion of training, the position will transfer to and remain fully on-site at Epsilon Industries’ Oxford, Alabama facility.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Inspection & Quality Control

Perform receiving, in-process, hold-point, and final inspections of fabricated products. Inspect welded assemblies, structural steel, piping systems, materials, and components. Verify compliance with applicable requirements, including: AWS D1.1 Applicable ASME piping codes Approved drawings and specifications Customer and project requirements Internal quality procedures Epsilon’s Quality Management System Inspect weld fit-up, joint preparation, material alignment, welding processes, and completed welds. Verify dimensions, tolerances, materials, components, identification, and workmanship. Confirm that required inspections and tests are completed before work progresses. Identify defective, incomplete, or nonconforming work and communicate findings promptly. Verify completed corrective work before closing inspection items. Support final product release and shipment activities within assigned authority.

Drawings & Technical Documentation

Read and interpret shop drawings, piping isometrics, weld maps, weld symbols, fabrication details, and technical specifications. Confirm that current and approved drawings are being used. Compare completed work with drawing dimensions, material requirements, and project specifications. Identify conflicts, missing information, or unclear requirements and coordinate clarification with Engineering or Quality. Maintain accurate inspection reports, checklists, weld records, photographs, and supporting documentation.

NDT Support

Support and review nondestructive testing (“NDT”) activities and reports when applicable, including: Visual Testing (“VT”) Magnetic Particle Testing (“MT”) Liquid Penetrant Testing (“PT”) Ultrasonic Testing (“UT”) Verify NDT is performed by properly qualified personnel using approved procedures. Review NDT reports for completeness and required acceptance information. Coordinate required testing with Production, Quality, customers, and third-party inspectors. Ensure rejected indications or deficiencies are documented, corrected, and retested. Perform NDT activities only when appropriately trained, qualified, and authorized. Nonconformance & Corrective Action Document nonconforming materials, workmanship, processes, and completed products. Prepare or assist with nonconformance reports (“NCRs”). Maintain identification and control of nonconforming materials. Work with Production, Welding, Engineering, and Quality personnel to determine appropriate corrective action. Participate in root-cause analysis and corrective and preventive action (“CAPA”) activities. Verify that corrective actions are completed and effective. Identify recurring quality concerns and recommend process, training, or documentation improvements.

Quality Management System

Maintain accurate inspection and quality records in accordance with QMS requirements. Follow established inspection plans, procedures, work instructions, and acceptance criteria. Support internal, customer, certification, and regulatory audits. Assist with maintaining material traceability, weld documentation, inspection records, and project turnover packages. Protect customer, project, technical, and company information. Support updates to inspection forms, procedures, checklists, and quality documentation. Promote consistent compliance with established quality processes.

Production & Continuous Improvement Support

Work directly with shop employees and supervisors to identify and resolve quality concerns. Communicate inspection requirements and findings clearly and professionally. Provide technical guidance within the position’s qualifications and authority. Participate in production, project, quality, and corrective-action meetings when requested. Support Lean manufacturing and continuous-improvement activities. Encourage quality at the source and help reduce defects, rework, delays, and waste. Maintain independence and objectivity when making inspection decisions.

General Responsibilities

Follow all company safety policies and personal protective equipment requirements. Maintain an organized and professional work area. Communicate significant quality or compliance concerns promptly to the Quality Manager. Maintain regular and dependable attendance. Work overtime, alternate shifts, or weekends when required by production or project needs. Travel to supplier, customer, or project locations when assigned. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education & Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Technical school, trade-school, welding, fabrication, or quality-control training preferred. Experience inspecting fabricated and welded products in a manufacturing, fabrication, or construction environment required. Hands-on experience applying AWS D1.1 requirements. Working knowledge of applicable ASME piping codes. An equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and relevant experience may be considered.

Technical Qualifications

Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, piping isometrics, weld symbols, weld maps, and fabrication details. Knowledge of welding processes, weld fit-up, joint preparation, visual weld inspection, and common weld discontinuities. Ability to use measuring and inspection equipment accurately. Understanding of material identification, traceability, inspection records, and document control. Ability to document inspection results, NCRs, corrective actions, and supporting evidence clearly. Familiarity with VT, MT, PT, and UT methods and reports. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams. Ability to learn and use company QMS, ERP, and document-management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

AWS Certified Welding Inspector (“CWI”) certification. ASNT Visual Testing Level I or Level II certification. Additional NDT training or certification in MT, PT, or UT. Experience with structural-steel and piping fabrication. Experience preparing or managing NCRs and CAPAs. Experience with material traceability and project turnover documentation. Experience supporting customer or third-party inspections. Exposure to Lean manufacturing or continuous-improvement programs.

Regular standing, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and climbing. Ability to access fabricated assemblies, piping systems, modular units, ladders, platforms, and limited-access areas. Ability to lift and carry inspection equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequent use of measuring tools, cameras, inspection instruments, and computers. Ability to distinguish weld profiles, surface conditions, material markings, and visual indications. Ability to read drawings, specifications, labels, measurements, and computer displays. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed primarily in manufacturing, fabrication, welding, warehouse, yard, and construction environments. Fully on-site position in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Regular exposure to noise, dust, fumes, welding operations, machinery, moving equipment, and varying temperatures. Work may require inspection of elevated, confined, or limited-access areas when properly trained and authorized. Required use of personal protective equipment in designated areas. Occasional travel may be required. Overtime, alternate shifts, or weekend work may be required based on production and project schedules.
