Professor of the Practice of Healthcare Management, Non-tenure track
Location: High Point University
The Department of Management in the Phillips School of Business at High Point University invites applications for a highly motivated and qualified Professor of the Practice of Healthcare Management and Director of the Healthcare Management Program.As Director of the Healthcare Management Program, the successful candidate will provide academic and strategic leadership for the Undergraduate Healthcare Management major and minor programs, with responsibility for maintaining the quality, relevance, and continued growth of the programs. The Director will oversee curriculum development and assessment; advise and mentor students; collaborate with faculty and university partners; and build strong relationships with healthcare organizations and industry leaders. A particular emphasis will be placed on developing and expanding experiential learning opportunities, including internships, healthcare organization partnerships, site visits, guest speakers, applied projects, and other experiences that connect classroom learning with the healthcare industry. The Director will also support student recruitment and retention, promote the Healthcare Management program internally and externally, monitor industry trends and workforce needs, and identify opportunities that enhance the program’s reputation and prepare graduates for successful careers in healthcare management.
In addition, the successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in healthcare management, healthcare funding, human resource management in healthcare, healthcare management strategy, healthcare leadership, and in other business-related areas as needed. Responsibilities also include advising and mentoring undergraduate students, contributing to curriculum and program development, serving the school and university, and engaging in scholarly research.
The candidate will collaborate with faculty across the Department of Management and the Phillips School of Business. The school supports a broad range of theoretical and methodological perspectives, values collaborative research, and encourages faculty to work across divisions and areas of specialization.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and oversight for the undergraduate Healthcare management major and minor, including curriculum development, program assessment, students’ recruitment and retention, and continued program growth. Develop and maintain partnerships with healthcare organizations to create meaningful experiential learning opportunities, including internships, applied projects, site visits, and engagement with healthcare industry leaders.
- Teach courses in healthcare management, healthcare delivery systems, healthcare funding, human resource management in healthcare, healthcare management strategy, and healthcare leadership.
- Engage in high-quality research that informs teaching and supports continued knowledge of emerging ideas and developments in healthcare management.
- Develop and update course materials to enhance student learning. Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities. Collaborate with colleagues on research and academic initiatives.
- Serve on department, school, and university committees and participate in professional or governmental organizations as appointed by Department Chair and/or Associate Dean.
- Abide by University and School of Business policies.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair and/or Associate Dean.
Qualifications
- Candidates must have, at minimum, an earned master’s degree in healthcare management, business administration, management, or a closely related field. An earned doctoral degree (Ph.D. or DBA) in management, business administration, or a closely related field from an accredited institution is preferred, although ABD candidates will be considered.
- Candidates must have at least 18 graduate credit hours closely related to healthcare, business management, leadership, organizational behavior, or a related field.
- Teaching experience at the university level is highly preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage in service activities within the university and professional community.
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of 7 years of healthcare industry experience.
- A minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership position.
- Experience with online and hybrid teaching modalities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
- Additional consideration will be given to healthcare professionals with experience in supply chain management.
