Job Description
Guest Experience Host
Hello Sailor – Half Moon Bay
We’re looking for someone with a big personality to be the face of Hello Sailor.
You’ll be the first person our guests see when they arrive and often the last person they speak to when they leave. We want someone who loves people, brings great energy and can make every guest feel welcome—even when the venue is packed and five different things are happening at once.
This isn’t a role where you’ll just stand behind a desk and check names off a list. You’ll take ownership of our bookings, manage the flow of tables and work closely with the floor team to keep service running smoothly.
Full-time or part-time hours are available. You must be available and willing to work our peak periods on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout summer.
What you’ll be doing
- Giving every guest a warm, confident welcome.
- Managing all table bookings, walk-ins and waitlists.
- Planning table allocations before service and adjusting them throughout the shift.
- Making smart decisions around booking times, table turns and where guests are seated.
- Answering phone, email and in-person booking enquiries.
- Keeping booking notes, dietary requirements and special occasions up to date.
- Communicating wait times clearly and keeping waiting guests looked after.
- Working closely with the managers and floor team so everyone knows who has arrived and which tables are coming next.
- Recognising regulars and building genuine relationships with our local guests.
- Knowing what’s happening at the venue, including live music, events, sports, specials and menu changes.
- Spotting guest issues early and helping resolve them before they become bigger problems.
- Helping clear, reset and prepare tables when the floor team needs a hand.
- Keeping the entrance, host station and menus looking sharp.
- Making sure guests leave with a great final impression.
Who we’re looking for
You’ll be confident, outgoing and naturally good with people. You’ll know how to read the room, have a laugh with guests and bring plenty of personality while still staying organised and professional.
Previous experience managing restaurant table bookings is a must. You’ll need to understand table plans, booking times, table turns, walk-ins and how to make the most of the venue without making guests feel rushed.
You’ll also need:
- A big personality and plenty of positive energy.
- Strong communication and people skills.
- Confidence handling busy services and demanding situations.
- The ability to think quickly and make good decisions.
- Great organisation and attention to detail.
- A team-first attitude - you won’t be afraid to jump in and help.
- Availability to work Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout summer.
- Flexibility to work evenings and public holidays when required.
- Experience using a restaurant booking system; SevenRooms experience would be a bonus.
What great looks like
Guests are welcomed straight away, bookings are under control and the floor team always knows what’s happening. You keep things moving without making anyone feel rushed, turn tricky situations around and help create the fun, relaxed atmosphere that Hello Sailor is known for.
If you’re full of personality, love meeting people and know how to run the door of a busy restaurant, we’d love to hear from you.
