Who we are
Frazer-Nash are a leading engineering, systems and technology consultancy. Through our meaningful innovations, our experts help organisations make lives securer, safer, sustainable and affordable.
In a nutshell, engineering consultancy is all about providing advice to positively impact our clients’ projects and businesses and the wider world around us.
Why Frazer-Nash?
As a graduate, you will typically be working on multiple projects simultaneously, managing your time and rapidly accruing a wealth of experience and skills. Hence, no two days in Frazer-Nash will be the same.
You will be surrounded by experts not just in your team, but also in a wide range of other fields – whether it’s digital or human sciences, we’re an interesting bunch.
We have a comprehensive Early Careers package that will help you successfully integrate into our business and meet new colleagues from across the organisation – last year we had over 100 Graduates, interns and summer placements and we are looking for a similar sized cohort this year so you will be joining with a large and vibrant peer group.
Clear career pathways with appropriate financial rewards will help you to develop and nurture your potential as you grow within your role, leading to exciting future career prospects, professional recognition and promotion.
The role
This is a role within our Maritime focused teams at Frazer-Nash which consist of:
Naval Safety and Assurance (Bristol/Plymouth/Portsmouth)
Marine Technology (Bristol)
Naval Nuclear Assurance (Plymouth)
Each team brings together a wide range of civil and military engineering experience to which you can be an integral part of the team. At Frazer-Nash we understand each person is unique and it is our aim to help guide you into the team and business area that is the best fit for you. So, if you have a strong desire or interest for a particular team described above, please let us know within your covering letter and application.
You'll be able to develop your technical knowledge throughout the Concept, Assessment, Demonstration, Manufacture, In-service and Disposal (CADMID) phases of maritime projects. From finding the missing piece of the design puzzle, to helping manage vessel build and delivery. You will be solving real-time in-service issues, and helping our clients overcome ever more complex material degradation and ageing issues as vessels near the end of their design life. While also looking to the future challenges of autonomous vessels, next generation shipping and utilisation of sustainable fuels.
Here are just a few of the challenges we are trying to solve:
Helping the Ministry of Defence understand the safety implications for personnel and marine systems when operating submarines in the extreme weather conditions in arctic waters.
Provision of safety engineering support to the next generation of future attack submarines ensuring that those onboard are safe from fire and flood.
Providing Safety Management expertise to Babcock in support of the Royal Navy’s Type 31 programme.
Conducting a hands-on investigative study in docking and supplying service to advanced warships.
Embedding a Naval Architect in a MoD project team to help develop the early concept design for a future attack submarine.
A study to understand the effectiveness of funding for UK seafarer training for the UK's maritime regulator, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).
Provision of Quality Management advice to a commercial shipping company to support their development of a prototype shaft line design for a foreign Navy.
Assessing evolving naval nuclear system designs and operating conditions to ensure the nuclear safety case remains substantiated.
Supporting the development of critical naval infrastructure and facilities.
As part of the wider business area, you will pull expertise from across the company and get a taste of what goes on in different areas of the business. Our graduates will gain exposure and experience in the huge variety of our work, and the chance to explore where their own skills and interests lie, whether that be a leadership or technical path.
At Frazer-Nash we think it is important that you gain exposure to the full project lifecycle and all aspects of our business. You will be given appropriate responsibility from day one, working as part of a project team, interacting with team members and client’s as required.
Our Recruitment Process:
Step 1: Application - CV submission
Step 2: Measure Potential - Arctic Shores’ task-based assessment. You will be asked to complete some exciting, engaging tasks which will help us get to know you better! In return, you’ll receive a personalised feedback report.
