About the Role
Develop robot motion that adapts to objects using vision and touch. Use FingerVision sensor data to decide where to grasp, which trajectory to follow, and how to respond to contact changes, then implement on actual robots. Work spans grasp/trajectory planning, visual and tactile feedback, real-time control, and advanced action planning, beyond repeating preset motions.
Why We Are Hiring
Soft, irregular, and delicate objects in manufacturing, logistics, and food require more than accurate positioning. Robots must respond immediately to slip, unexpected contact force, deformation, or positional shifts. We are accelerating R&D and commercialization of control that connects tactile information to motion for hard-to-automate tasks.
Responsibilities
• Motion generation: arm control programs, hand control, grasp and trajectory planning, motion-generation algorithms, and real-robot evaluation/improvement. • Visual/tactile feedback: use external cameras and tactile sensors in real time; adjust grasp force/motion to contact; correct slip or positional changes; evaluate and improve control on hardware. • Motion/action planning: plan task procedures, combine multiple motions, select actions for the situation, and research/implement advanced planning. • Depending on experience, use RGB-D/other 3D sensors: generate motion from object position/orientation, combine 3D and tactile information, and correct motion with camera information. • Hardware/product implementation: evaluate industrial/collaborative robots as well as simulation, analyze hardware issues, improve algorithms, integrate robotic systems, and apply them to products/customer projects. Operate robots with your own code and develop for field use.
Requirements
• Python development experience • C++ development experience • Experience controlling industrial/collaborative robot arms from Python or C++ • ROS/ROS 2 robot application development experience • Robot trajectory/motion planning knowledge and implementation experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in: • Motion generation with RGB-D or other 3D sensors • Visual servoing implementation • Manipulation of flexible/irregular objects • Tactile-sensor robot control/object manipulation • Grasp control with robot hands/grippers • Real-time control • Robot learning knowledge and implementation experience • Machine learning applied to robot control • Reinforcement-learning robot control • Imitation-learning robot control
What We Look For
Enjoy real robots as well as simulation; analyze unexpected motion and experiment. Consider sensors/hardware alongside theory, account for errors and uncertainty, collaborate across image processing, AI, and mechanics, tackle open-ended problems, and bring technology into products and customer settings.
Role Highlights
• Use touch to change grasping on slip, stop on contact, or adjust force to deformation, beyond preset positions/trajectories. • Grasp planning → trajectories → feedback → hardware evaluation → improvement; observe algorithms moving real robots. • Tackle changing foods/soft components and complex contact manipulation beyond conventional position control. • Build complete systems with vision, tactile sensing, AI/learning, mechanical, and hand specialists, broadening your expertise. • Bring research into products and manufacturing, logistics, food, and other customer environments.
