Mechanical Construction Manager Job Overview
A leading Mechanical & Electrical Contractor is seeking an experienced Mechanical Construction Manager to lead mechanical site delivery on large-scale data centre projects in Dublin.

The Mechanical Construction Manager will oversee mechanical installation activities, coordinate supervisors and specialist subcontractors, and ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
Working closely with the Mechanical Project Manager, engineering teams, planners and commissioning specialists, you will manage construction sequencing, labour resources, installation progress and system readiness through to handover.

This Mechanical Construction Manager job in Dublin would suit an experienced Mechanical Site Manager, Mechanical Construction Manager or Senior Mechanical Supervisor with a strong background in data centre construction and complex mechanical installations.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Construction Delivery

• Lead the day-to-day delivery of mechanical construction activities.
• Manage mechanical supervisors, foremen, installation teams and specialist subcontractors.
• Coordinate works against approved drawings, specifications and installation methodologies.
• Establish clear responsibilities, work areas and construction priorities.
• Monitor installation progress, productivity and workmanship.
• Identify constraints early and implement corrective actions with the project team.
• Coordinate mechanical activities with electrical, CSA, architectural and specialist packages.
• Ensure completed installations are protected throughout construction.

Data Centre Mechanical Systems

• Oversee installation of cooling systems, chilled-water networks and associated pipework.
• Coordinate chillers, pumps, valves, pressurisation units and heat-rejection equipment.
• Manage installation of CRAH units, air-handling equipment, ventilation and ductwork.
• Coordinate drainage, public health and water-treatment installations.
• Manage interfaces with fire-protection and generator-support systems where included in the project scope.
• Ensure mechanical installations accommodate maintenance access, equipment replacement and operational requirements.
• Coordinate BMS, controls and electrical interfaces with the relevant specialists.
• Support installation requirements for resilient and redundant data centre mechanical infrastructure.

Planning, Labour and Productivity

• Develop mechanical construction sequences and short-term look-ahead plans.
• Coordinate labour, supervision, materials, plant and access requirements.
• Monitor progress against programme milestones and agreed production targets.
• Track quantities installed, labour utilisation and outstanding work.
• Identify delays arising from design information, materials, access or preceding trades.
• Support recovery planning and resource adjustments where required.
• Coordinate subcontractor programmes and daily work activities.
• Provide accurate progress information to project management and planning teams.

Engineering and BIM Coordination

• Review construction drawings, coordinated layouts and technical submissions.
• Work with engineering and BIM teams to resolve clashes and buildability issues.
• Verify that approved information is available before installation begins.
• Coordinate plantroom layouts, service routes, supports and installation clearances.
• Raise technical queries and track their resolution.
• Ensure approved design changes are communicated to installation teams.
• Maintain site records and marked-up drawings to support accurate as-built information.

Materials, Plant and Site Logistics

• Coordinate material requirements and delivery schedules with procurement and project teams.
• Monitor availability of long-lead equipment and installation materials.
• Check deliveries for completeness, condition and suitability for installation.
• Plan equipment positioning, lifting operations and material movements with competent specialists.
• Coordinate storage, handling and preservation requirements.
• Manage vendor and specialist subcontractor access.
• Support installation planning for Owner-Furnished Contractor-Installed equipment where applicable.
• Identify supply-chain constraints and agree mitigation measures.

Health, Safety and Environmental Management

• Promote safe working practices across mechanical construction activities.
• Review RAMS with the EHS team and verify that controls are implemented.
• Monitor working at height, lifting, hot works, confined-space activities and pressure testing.
• Ensure permit-to-work and isolation procedures are followed.
• Maintain safe access, housekeeping and suitable exclusion zones.
• Participate in inspections, toolbox talks and incident investigations.
• Address unsafe conditions promptly and escalate significant concerns.
• Support waste management, spill prevention and responsible material handling.

Mechanical Quality Assurance and Control

• Work with QA/QC personnel to implement inspection and testing requirements.
• Verify compliance with approved specifications and manufacturer installation instructions.
• Coordinate first-off inspections, hold points and progressive installation checks.
• Monitor welding, jointing, supports, identification and system cleanliness.
• Ensure concealed works are inspected before closure.
• Manage snagging and support resolution of Non-Conformance Reports.
• Verify remedial works and prevent recurring installation defects.
• Maintain records supporting progressive system completion.

Testing, Commissioning and Handover

• Incorporate testing and commissioning prerequisites into construction planning.
• Coordinate pressure testing, flushing, cleaning and water-treatment activities.
• Support plant start-up, balancing and performance testing with commissioning specialists.
• Verify installation completion before systems are released for commissioning.
• Participate in mechanical walkdowns and readiness reviews.
• Support the client-defined commissioning process and Integrated Systems Testing.
• Coordinate closure of commissioning defects and outstanding construction works.
• Support preparation of turnover packs, as-built drawings and handover documentation.
• Ensure completed systems are handed over in a structured and traceable manner.

Commercial Awareness and Reporting

• Monitor labour, material usage and subcontractor progress.
• Identify scope changes and provide supporting site records to commercial teams.
• Assist with assessment of subcontractor progress and outstanding works.
• Report construction risks, resource requirements and programme impacts.
• Attend client, subcontractor and multidisciplinary coordination meetings.
• Communicate installation progress and priorities clearly to project stakeholders.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• Mechanical engineering qualification, relevant trade qualification or equivalent construction experience.
• Proven experience as a Mechanical Construction Manager, Mechanical Site Manager or Senior Mechanical Supervisor.
• Strong experience delivering mechanical installations on data centre projects.
• Technical knowledge of cooling, chilled-water, ventilation, pipework and mechanical building-services systems.
• Experience leading supervisors, trades, subcontractors and specialist vendors.
• Ability to manage construction sequencing, labour resources and installation productivity.
• Experience reviewing drawings, RAMS, inspection records and testing documentation.
• Understanding of mechanical commissioning prerequisites and progressive handover.
• Working knowledge of Irish construction health and safety requirements.
• Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Availability for a site-based position in Dublin.
• Appropriate legal working rights in Ireland.

Desirable Experience
