About ERO – www.eroafrica.co.za
Environmental Resource Optimizers (ERO) is a sustainability consultancy with more than two decades of experience helping businesses and communities reduce their environmental impact and improve resource efficiency. We work across the hospitality, private healthcare and education sectors, offering tailored solutions that support sustainable practices and long-term environmental stewardship.
Our expertise lies in optimizing energy, water and waste utilities through our Sustainable Environmental Management Programs (SEMP). These programmes combine monthly utility reporting, identification and investigation of anomalies, and advice on best practices and technologies. Education and awareness sessions with management and staff help make sustainable environmental management part of everyday operations.
Through technical insight, practical strategies and ongoing client support, ERO helps organizations achieve measurable improvements in resource efficiency, environmental performance and utility costs.

Client relationships and strategic support
· Serve as the primary liaison between clients and internal teams, building long-term relationships based on trust, technical credibility and responsive service.
· Onboard new clients and coordinate initial site visits to establish baseline energy and water use and understand site operations.
· Visit each assigned client site annually for tailored education and training in support of SEMP. Travel approximately 5–10 days per month across South Africa and, depending on the portfolio, elsewhere in Africa.
· Monitor client satisfaction, follow up on concerns and support retention through consistent service and demonstrated value.
· Assist annually with developing or updating each site’s environmental management plan.
Technical oversight and service delivery
· Conduct high-level energy, water and waste audits and support feasibility studies across multiple sites and clients.
· Develop a thorough understanding of client systems, major equipment, operating processes and metering arrangements.

· Stay informed about relevant emerging technologies, government incentives and sustainability best practices; involve specialists where required.
Technical analysis and sustainability delivery
Electricity and water analysis
· Read and interpret electricity interval data and load profiles. Understand kW, kWh, kVA, maximum demand, power factor and load factor, and explain their operational and cost implications.
· Identify excessive baseload, unusual peaks, overnight or weekend consumption, unexpected changes and equipment operating outside expected hours.
· Compare main intake and sub-meter consumption to identify major users and investigate unexplained differences, allowing for meter coverage and reporting periods.
· Understand time-of-use tariffs and demand charges, and distinguish consumption changes from tariff-driven cost increases.
· Relate electricity use to HVAC and chillers, hot-water systems, pumps, laundry and other major loads; account for solar, generators and supply interruptions where relevant.
· Interpret water readings and consumption in liters and kilolitres. Identify continuous overnight flow, suspected leaks and consumption inconsistent with occupancy or operations.
· Investigate anomalies with site teams and metering providers, document possible causes and follow up until corrective actions have been assessed.
Data analytics and reporting
· Compile, analyze and present monthly reports on energy, water, waste and carbon performance within the agreed client scope.
· Validate inputs and investigate missing intervals, duplicate records, meter resets, incorrect units, scaling errors and communication failures before reporting.
· Assess monthly, year-on-year and year-to-date trends. Benchmark performance using appropriate measures such as kWh or kL per occupied room night, bed night or other activity unit.
· Consider occupancy, weather, operating hours and site changes when explaining performance. Distinguish measured facts from suspected causes and disclose estimates or data limitations.
· Develop technical reports with prioritized, actionable recommendations, expected benefits and clear follow-up responsibilities; prepare presentations and case studies.
· Conduct SEMP assessments to determine ECO grading and identify improvement opportunities in line with ERO procedures.
Sustainability strategy and innovation
· Assist clients with sustainability budgets, targets, performance tracking and long-term planning.
· Support the development and implementation of tailored conservation initiatives, including equipment evaluation and indicative cost-benefit assessments.
· Track implemented measures against suitable baselines, documenting assumptions and avoiding unsupported savings claims.
· Stay informed about sustainability trends, technologies and regulatory developments relevant to client operations.
Internal collaboration and knowledge sharing
· Support other account managers in client meetings and project management tasks; share technical findings and lessons learned.
· Coordinate monthly, quarterly and annual client review meetings as agreed and maintain action logs and accurate platform records.
· Maintain data integrity and seek specialist input when an issue falls outside the role’s technical competence or authority.
