BARISTA – JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Purpose

The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality coffee, beverages, and café products while maintaining excellent customer service, cleanliness, hygiene, and smooth daily café operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Beverage Preparation
• Prepare coffee, tea, juices, smoothies, and other beverages according to café standards.
• Operate and maintain espresso machines, coffee grinders, blenders, and other café equipment.
• Ensure consistency in taste, presentation, portion size, and quality.
• Prepare hot and cold beverages efficiently during busy periods.
• Customer Service
• Welcome customers in a friendly and professional manner.
• Take customer orders accurately and process them efficiently.
• Handle customer requests, feedback, and complaints professionally.
• Maintain a positive and welcoming café environment.
• Food & Café Service
• Assist with serving pastries, sandwiches, snacks, and other café products.
• Ensure food and beverages are presented properly.
• Check product quality and expiry dates and report any concerns to the supervisor.
• Cash Handling & POS
• Operate the POS/cashier system accurately.
• Collect payments and provide correct change and receipts.
• Maintain proper cash-handling procedures.
• Report any cash discrepancies immediately to the supervisor.
• Cleanliness & Hygiene
• Maintain cleanliness of the coffee station, counters, tables, equipment, and café area.
• Follow all applicable food safety and hygiene procedures.
• Clean coffee machines, grinders, utensils, and equipment regularly.
• Ensure personal hygiene standards are maintained at all times.
• Stock & Inventory
• Monitor stock levels of coffee beans, milk, syrups, cups, packaging materials, and other supplies.
• Inform the supervisor of low-stock or damaged items.
• Store products properly according to café and food-safety requirements.
• Minimize wastage and use ingredients efficiently.
• Daily Operations
• Follow the café opening and closing procedures.
• Ensure the café station is fully prepared before the start of each shift.
• Support colleagues during busy periods.
• Follow the assigned duty roster, working hours, and break schedule.
• Perform other reasonable café-related duties assigned by management.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Previous experience as a Barista or in a café/restaurant environment is preferred.
• Knowledge of coffee preparation and espresso-making techniques.
• Good customer-service and communication skills.
• Basic cash/POS handling knowledge.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple orders.
• Good personal hygiene and attention to cleanliness.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Basic English communication skills; knowledge of additional languages is an advantage.
