Immigration Attorney at DUMÉ Law Group in West New York, NJ

Summary: Dumé Law Group is a fast-growing immigration law firm based in West New York, New Jersey, representing individuals and families in complex immigration matters. The Immigration Attorney will manage removal defense, asylum, waivers, and humanitarian cases while handling legal research, writing, client advocacy, evidentiary development, and Immigration Court proceedings. The role offers hands-on litigation experience and collaboration with senior attorneys.

Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload focused on removal defense and affirmative immigration matters, including asylum, withholding of removal, Convention Against Torture (CAT), cancellation of removal, waivers, and humanitarian relief
- Represent clients before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) , including Master Calendar Hearings and, as experience permits, Individual (Merits) Hearings
- Develop case strategy and prepare matters for hearings, including evidentiary development, witness preparation, and direct and cross-examination
- Represent clients in custody-related proceedings, including bond hearings, and prepare bond motions and other custody-related filings before EOIR and DHS
- Draft and file substantive motions, including motions to reopen, reconsider, change venue, and terminate proceedings
- Prepare legal briefs, pre-hearing statements, memoranda, and responses to motions to pretermit or other substantive filings
- Prepare and file immigration applications and supporting legal materials, including Form I-589, I-601A, I-601, and I-212 filings
- Handle affirmative and humanitarian matters, including VAWA, U visas, and T visas , as applicable to the firm's caseload
- Conduct legal research concerning immigration law, developing case law, regulations, and procedural requirements
- Compile and evaluate evidence, including country conditions reports, expert declarations, affidavits, and supporting documentation
- Prepare clients and witnesses for testimony, hearings, and other proceedings
- Attend DHS/ICE appointments, OSUP/ORR matters, and CART check-ins as needed
- Collaborate with senior attorneys, paralegals, and support staff to ensure accurate and timely filings and effective case management
- Monitor court deadlines and maintain compliance with EOIR filing requirements and procedural rules
- Assist with appellate matters before the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) , including Notices of Appeal and appellate briefs
- Assist with federal court matters, including habeas corpus petitions and related filings

Required Qualifications:
- • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- • Active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- • Fluency in Spanish and English
- • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills
- • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- • Ability to manage a demanding caseload, prioritize competing deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- • Ability to work full-time and in person in West New York, NJ
- • Experience with removal defense, asylum, waivers, humanitarian relief, or Immigration Court practice
- • Experience appearing before EOIR, including Master Calendar Hearings or Individual (Merits) Hearings
- • Experience drafting immigration briefs, motions, or substantive applications
- • Familiarity with BIA appellate practice or federal immigration litigation
- Candidates must be able to reliably commute to the firm's West New York office

Preferred Qualifications:
- • 0–4 years of immigration law experience preferred; candidates with relevant internships, clerkships, or post-bar experience are encouraged to apply
