Summary: Carilion Clinic is a healthcare organization offering an internship that provides students with hands-on experience in the healthcare field. Interns will support departmental operations and gain insights into patient care and hospital operations while working under the supervision of a department leader. Responsibilities: - Work under the supervision of a department leader or designee to complete assigned duties - Assist with operational, administrative or professional tasks aligned with department needs and the intern’s academic program - Observe, document, and communicate work progress, findings, or issues to the supervising leader or team - Interact and communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization using appropriate communication methods - Participate in staff meetings, project meetings, and interdisciplinary discussions as requested - Proactively seek out learning opportunities, manage time effectively, and appropriately prioritize assignments - Follow all organizational policies, procedures, ethical standards, and confidentiality requirements - Assist patients and visitors by providing directions, answering questions, and offering general support - Support patient flow by helping with room readiness, transport coordination, and communication between departments - Round on patients to ensure comfort needs are met (water, blankets, emotional support, etc.) - Partner with nursing staff and unit coordinators to identify non-clinical needs that improve patient satisfaction - Facilitate visitor check-ins and assist families navigating the hospital - Observe clinical workflows to gain a deeper understanding of hospital operations—without performing clinical tasks - Promote a positive, service-oriented environment on all inpatient units Required Qualifications: - Two years of high school required - Some internships may require a bachelor's degree; or enrolled in and nearing completion of an undergraduate degree or terminal degree in a field relevant to the internship - Ability to work efficiently, manage time wisely, and follow policies and procedures with minimal supervision - Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills - Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment - Demonstrated initiative, professionalism, and willingness to learn - Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately - Must be at least 16 years of age - Assignments that use chemicals or power tools require intern to be at least 18 years of age Important Skills: Healthcare knowledge Benefits: Comprehensive Medical, Dental, & Vision Benefits, Employer Funded Pension Plan, vested after five years (Voluntary 403B), Paid Time Off (accrued from day one), Onsite fitness studios and discounts to our Carilion Wellness centers, Access to our health and wellness app, Virgin Pulse, Discounts on childcare, Continued education and training
