Job Description
Summary: CAI is a global services firm with over 9,000 associates and a focus on uniting talent and technology. They are seeking a Cancer Registry Administrator to manage and ensure the quality and compliance of cancer data in line with state and federal standards, while supporting the Indiana State Cancer Registry operations.
Responsibilities:
- Files incoming cancer data reports from healthcare facilities (electronically stores faxed, mailed information)
- Coordinates with health systems (reporting healthcare facilities) to manage their Profiles in the ISCR databases - SEER*DMS, WebPlus and others
- Manages the ISCR Databases, ensuring profile updates are correct and appropriate. Updates the contact information of reporting facilities' cancer registrars and leaders. Reviews and updates methods for maintaining ISCR Databases
- Documents, registers and files all incoming pathology and laboratory reports. Performs assigned tasks
- Contributes to the development and review of the standard operating procedure for ISCR
- Ensures all data privacy practices are compliant with State and Federal regulations
- Assists in Cancer Data Collection:
- Coordinates cancer data collection from healthcare organizations. Reviews all data and report submissions to properly categorize and process incoming reports including pathology, laboratory, death, and any other communications received via a variety of sources (WebPlus, RightFax, USPS, facsimile)
- As directed, assists colleagues in transitioning non-hospital paper reporting facilities to electronic reporting through WebPlus or HL7-compliant tools
- Performs data quality control activities in SEER*DMS software upon completion of on-the-job training
- Conducts cancer data abstracting in WebPlus software upon completion of on-the-job training
- Participates in death clearance followback as assigned:
- Uses professional judgment and technical expertise to interpret and apply State and Federal rules and guidelines of established Cancer Registry Death Clearance procedure
- Performs assigned Death Clearance activities, ensuring compliance with national standards established by the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) Death Clearance Manual
- As directed, reviews mortality files from the IDOH Vital Records Division and conducts Death Clearance Follow-Back procedure in line with CDC standards and directions from supervisor and colleagues
- As directed, communicates with healthcare facilities regarding Death Clearance cases, utilizing written and oral communication methods, as well as secure file exchange tools when appropriate
- Conducts data pull for virtually pooled registry requests if assigned
- Participates in Program Evaluation and Provides General Program Support:
- Provides requested information, data to administrative reports, audits, queries to ensure compliance with national and state requirements for the cancer registry
- Participates in CDC-initiated data collection and audit activities, such as for the Program Evaluation Instrument (PEI), Performance Measures, biannual and quarterly check-in questionnaires, ad hoc audits
- Assists in program evaluation activities by participating in biannual Registry Advisory Council meetings and collecting requested evaluation data
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in health informatics, public health, or health information administration
- At least 1 year of work experience related to collecting and managing data in healthcare, preferably in cancer registry or cancer reporting
- Knowledge of local, state, and national requirements for quality assurance within cancer surveillance programs
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Enterprise tools (Word, Excel, Teams) and adaptability to learn new software systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification
