Located in either Vancouver or Victoria (with a preference for Victoria), this opportunity will appeal to a leader who is energized by possibility rather than crisis. The mandate calls for someone with the attitude, curiosity and influence to challenge established thinking, bring people through change, and create a modern operating environment that keeps pace with an ambitious, AI-first business. The role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the future of BCI’s technology function and contribute to the continued success of one of Canada’s most dynamic investment organizations.

With $313.7 billion of gross assets under management, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is one of the largest institutional investors in Canada. Since its inception in 1999, BCI has grown significantly and is now regarded as one of the most influential financial institutions globally, investing across a broad range of asset classes and strategies in both public and private markets. Today, BCI employs more than 800 people across offices in Victoria, Vancouver, New York and London, and continues to be recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, Canada’s Top Family-Friendly Employers, Canada’s Top Employers for Young People and BC’s Top Employers.

In recent years, BCI has made substantial investments in modernizing its technology operations and has established a leading-edge platform, recently winning Info-Tech Innovator of the Year (2025) and CIO of the Year (2026). With a stable and well-managed foundation now in place, the Technology function is focused on sustaining that momentum through continued innovation and the thoughtful adoption of new technologies. The next phase will build on BCI’s existing strengths by accelerating cloud-native capabilities, AI-enabled services, automation and modern engineering practices, ensuring the technology environment continues to evolve ahead of business needs and enables the organization to move with greater speed, intelligence and confidence.

Key to this ambition is the role of Vice President, Technology Operations. Reporting to the SVP, Technology & Innovation and CTO, and leading a team of ~32, the Vice President will oversee cloud and infrastructure services and systems, digital workplace services and systems, Service Desk and service management, as well as disaster recovery. This is a role not simply focused on day-to-day operations but on the continued evolution and shaping of BCI’s future state technology platform. The VP will be on the pulse of the external operational environment, actively assessing current performance and future trends, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, and providing senior technical advisory services to the CTO for strategic consideration and action.

The ideal candidate will be a technology leader who has led large teams in a technology-forward, entrepreneurial environment such as fintech, technology-enabled services or complex organizations where modern infrastructure and exceptional user experience are viewed as business enablers. They will be a transformational and technically credible leader who combines strategic vision with enough technical depth to challenge assumptions and bring new ideas to the table. Rather than being constrained by traditional infrastructure models, they will be curious about what is possible, question the status quo, be comfortable leading change in an already stable environment, and focused on speed, innovation and the end-user experience.

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.

The annualized base salary range for this role based in Victoria is CAD $190,000-$240,000.
