This is an exempt level position reporting though the Plant Improvement organization
The Performance Management Lead should be a subject matter expert of all financial aspects of operations, including operating costs and KPIs management. The performance management lead should take a leadership role in improving the plant’s cost position. This colleague is a critical link between the operations and commercial/finance teams, is important stakeholder and owner of the financial plan, and a key member of the operations leadership team. The Performance Management Lead should be a subject matter expert of all financial aspects of operations, including operating costs and KPIs management. The performance management lead should take a leadership role in improving the plant’s cost position. This colleague is a critical link between the operations and commercial/finance teams, is important stakeholder and owner of the financial plan, and a key member of the operations leadership team. The responsibilities of the performance management lead include:
- Leading the preparation of the annual financial plan for operating the plant, business or region
- Engage with plant, E2E finance and external stakeholders on setting benchmarks for operating cost. Coordinate all input for financial plan
- Accountably own and coordinate planning non-financial KPIs such as OEE, usages and utilities.
- Train, coordinate and assist operations teams on the planning process
- In partnership with plant controller, leading the plant cost analysis efforts and variance review process, with a view towards driving actions and value creation, and contributing to updated forecasts in alignment with finance teams
- Take a lead role in leveraging performance management tools for review & response process
- Analyze performance gaps and highlight areas of opportunity by mining PI data, Maximo data, accounting reports, and power BI reports
- Work with plant controlling to explain cost anomalies
- Promote accountability of financial and operational KPIs among plant/regional leadership via coaching and follow-up
- Supporting plant improvement, supply chain and capex teams where needed by:
- Leading OEE planning and analysis
- Supporting supply chain management on production planning.
- Taking part in AFE preparation and lookbacks to understand financial justification of capital expenditures
- Leading non-financial KPI management
- With PE/CI and Improvement, driving Performance Excellence initiatives, such as Zero Loss, Focused Improvement and Losses-to-Action
- Plant safety leadership
- Promote a positive safety attitude in all interactions
- Perform all duties in compliance with ADM’s core values
- Have an understanding of operational accounting best practices and ability to navigate ADM’s systems and processes, leveraging experience, internal network and ability to learn
- Solid foundation in basic IT toolkit and productivity/BI software, and ability to adapt and provide needed information quickly and in a clear manner
- Understand fundamentals of plant operations, including process flow, cost structure and basic energy and material balance
- Understand purpose of each unit operation as well as its financial impact
- Understand high level operating KPIs such as OEE, yield, energy/chemical utilization, and Cost of Poor Quality
- Understand fundamentals of plant cost position
- Understand drivers for fixed and variable costs, how to plan and analyze, able to grasp principles of benchmarking and optimization
- Ability to understand diverse cost drivers such as depreciation, pricing, inflation, operational efficiency, allocations and absorption
- Ability to communicate externally, both written and verbally, on plant/regional performance and improvement efforts
- Should be comfortable preparing and presenting consolidated information to an audience
- Must be able to communicate effectively across multiple functions and levels.
- 4 year university degree in engineering or accountancy preferred
- 5+ years in operations accounting or process operations, with preferred exposure to both.
- Plant-specific process knowledge preferred, or sufficient ability to learn quickly.
- Plant-specific operations accounting and financial process familiarity preferred
- Candidate that doesn’t come ready with both technical and financial capabilities needs ability and desire to grow these areas
- Requires ability to collaborate, influence, lead, and execute.
- Must be able to communicate at all levels, and be comfortable engaging with colleagues across varied functions and levels
