We are seeking a dependable, hands-on Water Meter Foreman to lead residential water meter replacement crews within our Infrastructure Rehabilitation team.
Position Summary
The Water Meter Foreman leads field crews and manages daily operations for residential water meter replacement projects, typically involving meters ranging from 5/8 inch to 1 inch. These projects support the transition from manual-read meters to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) or Automated Meter Reading (AMR) technology.
This role is responsible for crew productivity, installation quality, safety, accurate documentation, and professional customer service. The Foreman trains crew members, coordinates tools and materials, resolves field challenges, and performs meter replacements as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily crew operations, assign work, and coordinate routes and work orders to meet project schedules and production expectations.
- Review project instructions, plans, and installation requirements with crew members before work begins.
- Supervise and assist with removing existing residential water meters and installing replacement meters according to manufacturer specifications and company procedures.
- Verify proper meter alignment, orientation, connections, and completion of required pressure and leak checks before restoring service.
- Inspect completed work to confirm installation quality, accurate documentation, secure meter box lids, and proper cleanup.
- Review meter serial numbers, final and initial readings, photographs, and work-order information for accuracy and completeness.
- Complete and submit crew timesheets, daily production reports, and other required project documentation.
- Train and mentor crew members in meter replacement procedures, tool use, mobile work-order software, customer service, and safe work practices.
- Conduct daily safety discussions and ensure crews follow company safety procedures, use required personal protective equipment, and maintain appropriate traffic and pedestrian controls.
- Identify and address leaking valves, corroded piping, damaged meter boxes, access issues, and other conditions that affect safe installation.
- Troubleshoot equipment and jobsite challenges, communicate problems to management, and coordinate solutions to minimize downtime.
- Ensure residents receive professional notice before water service interruptions and help resolve basic customer questions or concerns.
- Coordinate daily material and equipment needs, including loading, unloading, and tracking meters, tools, and supplies.
- Ensure vehicles and equipment are inspected, cleaned, maintained, and properly stored; report repair needs promptly.
- Work alongside the crew and perform technician duties when needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience in water meter installation, water utility construction, residential plumbing, or closely related field work.
- Previous experience leading a field crew or serving as a lead technician preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
- Working knowledge of residential water-service configurations, meter installation, common piping materials, and leak troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with AMI or AMR meter systems preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience using pipe wrenches, tongue-and-groove pliers, and other common hand tools.
- Ability to use GPS-enabled devices, tablets, and mobile work-order management software.
- Ability to organize daily work, direct crew members, monitor productivity, and maintain quality standards.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate recordkeeping.
- Professional communication, customer-service, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to safe work practices and the ability to recognize and address jobsite hazards.
- Willingness to travel and work overtime or occasional weekends as required.
