Supported Housing Manager at YMCA… · Basingsto…

Change Lives. Build Independence. Create Brighter Futures.

Some management roles are about overseeing services.

This one is about helping young people and families move forward with confidence.

As a Supported Housing Manager with YMCA Basingstoke, you'll play a key leadership role in providing safe, supportive homes for young people and families experiencing homelessness, whilst helping them develop the skills, confidence and resilience needed to thrive independently.

Working closely with the Supported Housing Area Manager, you'll lead a dedicated team, oversee housing operations and ensure every resident receives the support they need to achieve positive outcomes.

As a Supported Housing Manager

This role is about far more than managing buildings.

It's about creating environments where people feel safe, valued and able to build a better future.

You'll combine operational leadership with compassionate, person-centred support, helping residents overcome challenges and progress towards independent living.

A Role with Lasting Impact

At YMCA, we call the people who live with us our members.

Every member has their own story, ambitions and challenges, and your role will be to ensure they receive the right support at the right time.

You'll lead a service built around trauma-informed practice, wellbeing and opportunity, helping people develop the skills they need to move forward positively.

You'll:

• Lead the day-to-day operation of YMCA Basingstoke
• Line manage, support and develop a team of staff and volunteers
• Ensure high-quality support planning, assessments and interventions are in place
• Champion trauma-informed practice, Psychologically Informed Environments and Advantaged Thinking approaches
• Support residents to access employment, education, training and volunteering opportunities
• Act as an advocate for members and work closely with partner agencies
• Develop community-focused activities and opportunities that promote wellbeing and engagement
• Oversee accommodation allocations, inductions and resident onboarding
• Lead on anti-social behaviour investigations and welfare concerns
• Manage service-level complaints and ensure timely resolutions
• Support rent account management and debt recovery processes
• Ensure health and safety, compliance and regulatory requirements are met
• Drive high-quality void management and property turnaround
• Participate in a duty management rota, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays
• Work collaboratively with housing management, estates teams and external providers

This isn't leadership from behind a desk.

You'll be working directly with residents, supporting staff and helping create a culture where people can belong, contribute and thrive.

Helping People Build Independent Futures

Many of the young people and families who come to YMCA have experienced challenges, adversity or instability.

Some may need support with housing, mental wellbeing, education, employment or confidence.

Your role is to help people move forward.

To understand individual needs.

To build positive relationships.

And to ensure every member has access to the support, opportunities and encouragement they need to achieve their goals.

This is about recognising potential, not problems.

Creating opportunities, not barriers.

And helping people build sustainable futures for themselves.

Leading Through Compassion and Purpose

A big part of this role is supporting others.

You'll lead a committed team, helping them develop their skills, confidence and understanding of trauma-informed approaches.

You'll provide guidance during challenging situations, support positive and restorative behaviour management and ensure staff wellbeing remains a priority.

We're looking for someone who can inspire confidence, motivate others and create a positive environment where both residents and colleagues can flourish.

Because great support starts with great leadership.

The Person We're Looking For

You'll be passionate about supporting vulnerable young people and families and motivated by creating positive change in people's lives.

You'll need experience of:

• Managing within a youth, adult or community-based service
• Supporting people with complex needs
• Leading and developing staff and volunteers
• Working within housing, support or community environments
• Managing challenging situations professionally and positively
• Working with partner agencies and external stakeholders
• Delivering person-centred support that promotes independence

You'll also have:

• Knowledge of housing support services and processes
• A good understanding of safeguarding principles and procedures
• An understanding of the challenges facing young people
• Knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion principles
• Good IT skills and administrative capability
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills

More Importantly, We're Looking for Someone Who Is:

• Passionate about the work of YMCA
• Warm, approachable and compassionate
• An excellent communicator
• Able to build positive relationships quickly
• Resilient under pressure
• Calm when managing challenging situations
• Motivating and supportive of others
• Organised and adaptable
• Creative in their approach to problem-solving
• Committed to helping people achieve their potential
