Position Focus
Education. The student will attend a number of core lecture series related to neuroscience and research methods, as well as a series of seminars on multiple perspectives to research. In addition, there will be arrangements in place for the student to attend an "elective" lecture in related areas depending on the student's interest.
Training. The main focus over the course of the year will be working alongside an identified mentor to complete a research project. This project will be written up and will comprise the student’s research master’s thesis to be submitted to UCL at the end of the academic year. Projects may include using neuroimaging techniques to understand clinical disorders, analyzing qualitative data from patients and/or their families, or the assessment of behavioral or self-report data to inform understanding of psychopathology. Associate Professor Helena Rutherford (Child Study Center) will coordinate and facilitate the student's pairing with individual mentors and carefully monitor their progress and provide appropriate support over the course of the year. Students will receive training in the specific area of their research project.
Mentorship. The student will have a primary mentor overseeing their thesis research, and a second advisor in their lab to provide additional support. Dr. Rutherford also provides additional mentorship to the students regarding their thesis work and career progression.
