Job Description
Summary: The District Board of Trustees of Pensacola State College is seeking an Accountant to assist in the financial administration and oversight of College funds. The role involves managing College funds, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, and preparing financial reports and budget amendments.
Responsibilities:
- Manages College funds, ensuring compliance with contracts, budgets, spending requirements, and expected outcomes
- Maintains accurate records and files pertaining to financial and related information for the various College funds
- Prepares financial and related reports as required by the District Board of Trustees, external agencies, and as mandated by federal and state regulations
- Prepares budget amendments and journal entries to maintain accurate accounting records
- Reviews and approves purchase requisitions, budget amendments, travel authorizations, check requisitions, personnel costing, and other financial transactions
- Reconciles accounts, researches discrepancies, and takes appropriate corrective action
Required Qualifications:
- Graduation from an institution that holds accreditation recognized by the U.S. Department Education and approved by the College with a bachelor's degree in accounting
- Successful results of a criminal background check are required
- It is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations
- A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment
- Any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment
- Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear correspondence
- Provides excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders
- Possesses proficiency in database software, payroll systems, spreadsheet programs, and word processing software
- Operates standard office equipment, including a desktop computer, copier machine, printers, and calculators
- Applies advanced mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, fractions, percentages, and numerical reconciliation
- Regular and consistent attendance, as well as punctuality, are essential to fulfilling the requirements of this job
