Job Description
Summary: Worthington Steel is North America’s market leader for tailor welded products, and they are seeking a Project Engineering Intern for the summer session. The intern will gain hands-on experience by completing challenging projects that apply their field of study to real-world applications in manufacturing while receiving mentorship and guidance from experienced professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Projects are planned based on anticipated departmental needs but may be altered based on business needs or selected intern’s skills or interests
- The intern will focus on optimizing of wire feed parameters on hot formed ablated welds, executing design improvements, and implementing changes to the wire feed system equipment
Required Qualifications:
- Major in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering in an accredited program or an alternate degree with relevant experience
- Completion of Freshman Year by summer of 2026
- Proficient in CAD, 3D Modeling, and mechanical design
- Experience using basic hand tools and machine assembly and repair
- General engineering skills and knowledge of welding processes
- Working knowledge of statistics
- Proficient in using computers, learning new systems, and critical thinking
- Active listener who can receive and follow directions
- Takes initiative and is driven to identify opportunities for improvement
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Punctuality and commitment to doing the job right
- Interest in Manufacturing
Preferred Qualifications:
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, must be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization
- Laser Welding experience
- Previous internship in manufacturing environment
- Willingness to travel to the Worthington Corporate Materials Lab (CML) in Columbus, Ohio and TWB Monroe, MI
