Job Description
Summary: Woodward, Inc. is committed to creating a great workplace for all team members and is seeking an intern in Materials Engineering. This internship offers students the opportunity to gain exposure to the Aerospace and Energy Industry, providing hands-on experience while working on challenging projects and networking with professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Support the Materials and Surface Engineering lab’s requests with sample preparation, hardness testing, and microstructure analysis
- Assist materials engineers in evaluating coatings and material properties of various materials and heat treatments
- Characterize materials for new product introduction projects using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), nano hardness indentation, and microstructure analysis
- Perform high-temperature fatigue testing of additive manufactured materials and document the fatigue data in written reports and databases
- Conduct failure analysis of both internal and external component failures to identify root cause of failure. Use scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) to perform the analysis and write failure analysis reports to document the findings
Required Qualifications:
- Must be at least a sophomore in an accredited College or University program and have an acceptable grade point average
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Competent skills in problem solving and trouble-shooting
- Competent in the use of PCs, MS Office Programs and other associated software
- Ability to effectively operate in a team environment
- Effective time management skills
- Solid knowledge of the English language with the ability to speak, read and write along with good listening skills
- This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR and EAR, or possess all required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State Department and the U.S. Department of Commerce
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to use mechanical CAD tools is a plus – PTC Creo is preferred
- Experience with Lab View programming is a plus
- Previous internship or other working experience, a plus
