The Internship Experience

As a WM Intern, you won't be sitting on the sidelines, you'll be in the mix. You will work alongside experienced professionals on real projects that make an impact for WM. You'll get real-world experience in key aspects of our business, including a meaningful project you'll own and present to senior leaders at the end of the summer, while discovering what we're all about. Outside of your core work, you'll join skill-building workshops, connect with leaders through executive roundtables, and build community with fellow interns from across the country. About the Strategy & Corporate Development Team

This internship is part of the Strategy & Corporate Development crew—a team known for its innovative thinking. You'll get to explore strategy, M&A, and corporate venture capital projects, learn how things work behind the scenes, and help WM drive purpose in everything we do. Whether you're diving into data, pitching ideas, or helping make things run smoother, what you do will matter—and we want to hear what you think.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Analyze industry trends, regulatory changes, and market dynamics to provide actionable insights to management
Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, and ad hoc market intelligence for management
Scout and screen emerging technologies and investment opportunities that align with WM’s adjacent growth initiatives or optimize existing operations
Assist in identifying and assessing adjacent business opportunities leveraging WM’s core competencies
Support M&A processes by performing due diligence, financial modeling, valuation analysis, synergy identification and quantification, and scenario analysis
Uses problem solving skills, determines problems, and understand fundamental parts of the problem.
Conducts analysis as directed, and prepares and delivers insights and recommendations based on analysis.
Synthesizes findings and draws conclusions from analyses and makes oral/written recommendations to supervisor and/or manager.
Executes tasks directly related to functional projects and/or process improvements.
Communicates issues and roadblocks related to areas of responsibility.
Please note that you’re expected to do 0-10% of travel in relation to your work.

III. Qualifications

A. Required Qualifications

Interns must have a High school diploma or GED (accredited) and be pursuing or have recently completed a Bachelor’s degree (accredited) in a field of study relevant to the internship.
