Job Description
Summary: Withum is a place where talent thrives, offering endless opportunities for growth and teamwork. The Valuation Associate will facilitate lending decisions by performing valuations for banks and assist in various economic and statistical analysis projects.
Responsibilities:
- Preparing valuation analyses primarily for lending purposes. Additionally, they may assist on valuations for tax purposes, financial reporting and advisory purposes (enterprise values, stock options, warrants, convertible debt, equity allocations across complex capital structures, and other complex securities/derivatives) primarily in Excel dependent upon background and experience
- Completing data entry of tax returns and financial statements into Excel models
- Assisting in writing and preparing reports, letters, and other client deliverables
- Assisting in review of third-party appraisals for audit support purposes
- Performing macroeconomic and industry research
- Reviewing various agreements, documents, research papers, and market research with the intent of capturing salient points to be used for modeling purposes and clearly communicating the key drivers to others
- Assisting in the development, maintenance, and application of various models using Excel
- Reviewing and gaining a sufficient understanding of the necessary tax and financial reporting guidance governing the analysis
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business, economics, finance, mathematics, statistics, accounting, or similar quantitative discipline
- Understanding of equity valuation methods such as discounted cash flow, market multiple, and market transaction
- 1-2 years' relevant experience focused on valuation work
- Understanding of financial statements and business tax returns required
- Strong interest in quantitative and economic analysis
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Progress towards external designations such as CFA, CVA, CPA/ABV, or ASA a plus
- Advanced knowledge of Excel preferred
- Ability to program in VBA and/or other statistical package a plus
- Capacity to work independently on projects
