European Brand Positioning Strategist at Wise Pirates · Porto

About Wise Pirates

Wise Pirates is a leading Digital, Tech, and AI Business Partner, operating in over 80 countries from Portugal. With a team of 100+ professionals, we are a Martech-independent agency at the forefront of innovation in Southern Europe. Our ambition is to lead an AI-first marketing ecosystem, blending human creativity with the power of artificial intelligence.

We are dynamic, forward-thinking, and driven by data, automation, and meaningful customer experiences. We believe that our people are our most valuable asset, and we are committed to fostering a culture where they can grow, innovate, and thrive.

About the Role

We are looking for a European Brand Positioning Strategist to join our Strategy practice and shape one of the most distinctive narratives in European business today: how brands and institutions communicate trust, origin and values in a moment where "European-first" is moving from a political conversation to a real commercial advantage.

This is a senior role at the intersection of brand strategy, cultural insight and European affairs. You will turn the sovereignty agenda into positioning frameworks, narrative platforms and messaging hierarchies that clients can actually deploy — across B2B, B2G and corporate communications. You will also help Wise Pirates sharpen its own positioning in this space, supporting new business pitches, thought leadership and PR.

Reporting jointly to the Chief Strategy Officer and the Creative Director, you will work side by side with our Strategy, Creative, Data and AI squads, and engage directly with senior client stakeholders across regulated and reputation-sensitive sectors.

Key Responsibilities

● Brand Positioning Frameworks: Develop positioning models for clients communicating a European-first or sovereign identity, articulating what their origin, values and provenance mean in practice.

● Narrative & Messaging: Translate the sovereignty trend into compelling brand narratives, campaign platforms and messaging hierarchies tailored to executive, customer and policy audiences.

● Competitive Intelligence: Conduct structured audits of how European brands are — or are not — differentiating through their values, origin and regulatory posture, and identify white-space opportunities.

● B2B & B2G Communications: Advise clients on brand-to-business and brand-to-government strategies where trust, compliance and provenance are decisive purchasing factors.

● Wise Pirates Positioning: Help articulate Wise Pirates' own point of view in the sovereignty space — feeding pitches, content, PR and partnership conversations.

● Thought Leadership: Co-create white papers, event talks, bylines and op-eds that build external visibility for the practice and the broader sovereignty conversation in Europe.

● New Business Support: Contribute strategic narrative and credibility to pitches across sovereignty-sensitive sectors (finance, public sector, health, industry, tech).

What We're Looking For

● 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in brand strategy, strategic planning or communications strategy, ideally at European network agencies, independent brand consultancies or political/corporate communications shops.

● Proven ability to build positioning frameworks, narrative architectures and messaging systems for senior client stakeholders.

● Solid grasp of European culture, politics and business — and a genuine interest in how the EU regulatory and policy moment is reshaping brand behaviour.

● Comfort with stakeholder research and qualitative insight work as a foundation for strategy.

● Experience supporting B2B and ideally B2G communications, where trust, compliance and provenance carry strategic weight.

● Strong written craft: you can move fluently from a strategy deck to a thought leadership essay to a pitch narrative.

● Fluent English (essential) and Portuguese (important); strong writing in one additional EU language is essential, and French or German is a meaningful plus.

Behavioral Skills

● Strategic Vision: You connect long-term cultural and political shifts to concrete brand decisions clients can act on.

● Cultural Fluency: You read Europe — its tensions, languages, regional nuances — beyond stereotypes and headlines.

● Narrative Craft: You shape ideas with structure and elegance, and you defend them with clarity.

● Always-On Curiosity: You track how European sovereignty, regulation and brand behaviour evolve, and you keep your point of view current — appetite for fresh angles is part of how you work.

● Cross-Functional Collaboration: You work naturally with creatives, data, technologists and senior leadership, translating across domains.

● Kindness: At Wise Pirates we promote and admire kindness, independently of rhythm, intensity and efficiency.

● AI Readiness: Interest and fluency in using AI as a partner to deliver efficient value, respecting security and privacy regulations.

● Innovation Lover: Someone seeking continuous growth and desiring to be part of innovative solutions.

Nice to Have

● Previous work with European institutions, public affairs firms, or political communication teams transitioning into commercial brand work.

● Published thought leadership on European brands, cultural strategy, sovereignty or geopolitics of business.

● Experience leading brand work in regulated sectors (finance, health, public sector, defence, industry).

● Familiarity with the EU policy landscape (AI Act, DMA, DSA, GDPR) and its implications for brand communications.

● Network within European media, events, and industry consortia where the sovereignty conversation is taking place.

What We Offer

● A front-row seat in a growing agency placing AI — and European brand strategy — at the centre of how we work and how we serve our clients, both in service and products.

● A culture of autonomy, where you own your projects end-to-end and have real space to experiment and help shape a new practice.

● Direct exposure to a wide range of use cases, industries, and clients across 80+ countries, with real impact on what gets shipped.

● Continuous learning alongside a cross-functional team of automation, data, media, and creative specialists.

● Competitive Salary: Salary conditions that reflect your seniority and impact.

● Flexible Work: A Hybrid Work Model designed for balance.

● Elite Tech Access: Fast access to advanced AI tools and hardware.

● Rest & Resilience: Up to 30 vacation days for resilient and top performers.

● Global Projects: Opportunity to work with top-tier national and international brands.

● Growth Mindset: Real career growth, continuous learning, and access to certifications/bootcamps.

● Family First: Enhanced Parental Leave.

● Pirate Life: A collaborative culture with "Pirate Crew Socials" and unforgettable team

moments.
