Partners with the Sales Manager, Deli Food Service to support category strategy, sales growth, gross profit contribution, merchandising execution, and operational consistency across Kings & Balducci's. Assists in developing and implementing pricing, promotional, assortment, planogram, and merchandising plans for assigned deli and food service categories. Supports vendor relationships, store communication, and cross-functional execution to deliver a differentiated customer experience, fresh product presentation, strong food safety standards, and achievement of department financial objectives
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Assists in creating annual category business plans based on prior results, consumer trends, market insights, and Kings & Balducci's merchandising priorities.
- Supports achievement of projected sales, gross profit dollars, share growth, and total department contribution for assigned deli and food service categories.
- Assists with pricing strategy, promotional planning, assortment recommendations, shelf schematics, and merchandising plans that support category roles and customer expectations.
- Tracks promotional results and conducts item- and category-level analysis to identify opportunities for sales growth, margin improvement, shrink reduction, and stronger execution.
- Coordinates ad plans, displays, seasonal programs, and cross-merchandising activities in partnership with stores, merchandising, procurement, operations, and other division teams.
- Works with stores to support consistent execution of deli and food service programs, including fresh prepared foods, service case, self-service, cheese, charcuterie, sushi, and related specialty programs as assigned.
- Supports vendor communication, deal coordination, new item recommendations, discontinuation decisions, and product availability planning in partnership with the Sales Manager and procurement teams.
- Maintains scorecards and reports to monitor weekly, quarterly, and annual performance, including sales, gross profit, shrink, service levels, inventory position, and promotional effectiveness.
- Visits stores as needed to observe merchandising execution, department conditions, product quality, food safety practices, and customer experience; provides follow-up and recommendations to improve results.
- Supports store teams with communication, training, and execution guidance for new programs, seasonal initiatives, menu changes, product launches, and corporate or division priorities.
- Works in conjunction with corporate merchandising, division operations, procurement, vendors, and store leadership to implement programs effectively and resolve execution barriers.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the division.
SCOPE DATA:
- Sales results, gross profit dollars, and share growth for assigned deli and food service categories.
- Promotional performance, vendor support, shrink, service level, inventory position, and execution of merchandising programs.
- Store execution support across Kings & Balducci's deli and food service departments.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Education Level: Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Culinary, Hospitality, Retail Management, or related field preferred; equivalent retail, deli, food service, or merchandising experience may be considered.
Experience Level: 5+ years of retail deli, food service, prepared foods, specialty foods, merchandising, or store operations experience preferred. Prior experience supporting sales plans, category execution, vendor coordination, and store teams is preferred.
Skills and Experiences:
- Strong understanding of retail deli, food service, prepared foods, specialty cheese, charcuterie, sushi, and related fresh merchandising programs.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply sales reports, profit and loss information, inventory data, shrink results, and promotional performance metrics.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify opportunities, recommend action, and follow through on execution.
- Strong planning, organization, communication, and follow-up skills to support multiple stores, vendors, and cross-functional partners.
- Working knowledge of pricing, promotion planning, assortment management, category business planning, planograms, and merchandising execution.
- Understanding of procurement, logistics, inventory management, product quality, freshness standards, sanitation, food safety, and store-level operating practices.
- Ability to build effective relationships with store leadership, department managers, vendors, procurement, operations, merchandising, and corporate partners.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and related reporting tools.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Travel required to stores, vendor meetings, division meetings, and other business locations as needed; travel may vary based on geography and business priorities.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
- Work may be performed in a temperature-controlled office environment and in retail store deli and food service departments.
- Incumbent may sit, stand, walk, or travel for extended periods of time.
- Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of a normal workday.
- Store visits may include exposure to refrigerated, freezer, hot food preparation, and food service environments.
- Stooping, bending, twisting, reaching, and walking store departments may be required in completion of job duties.

Starting rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and may vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. Candidates with unique qualifications may be considered for compensation above this range.
