Power Plant Summer Intern at Vistra Corp. in Sayreville, NJ

Summary: Vistra Corp. is a global leader in energy solutions, and they are seeking a Power Plant Summer Intern to join their team. The role involves rotating through different areas of the plant to gain operational knowledge and assisting with mechanical and operational activities to maximize plant efficiency and safety. Responsibilities: - Incumbents will rotate through the different areas of the plant to gain a working knowledge of those areas of the plant - Assist with operational and mechanical activities to maximize plant availability and reliability - Operate and monitor plant equipment and systems locally and remotely from the Control Room - Perform regular equipment rounds, taking critical readings from instruments and reports abnormal conditions to the appropriate manager - Utilize plant informational systems to provide timely troubleshooting and repair of operational abnormalities - Assist with mechanical maintenance tasks, routine Preventative Maintenance, and inspections and troubleshooting as assigned - Assist in the development of standard operational procedures as assigned - Adherence to safe working practices and identify hazards ,following through on corrective action in conjunction with Management - Support vendor relationships around plant production schedules - Complete required plant training - Assist with unloading, handling and transferring of bulk chemicals, de-mineralized water trailers, and taking of samples for analysis and testing - Maintain plant housekeeping and security - Perform other projects as assigned Required Qualifications: - High School diploma, trade school, military service or technical school training - Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills - Possess the ability to work independently and in a fast paced environment - Mechanical and trouble shooting skills - Ability to work flexible hours, weekday shift vacancies, support plant start-ups, be on call and accept call-outs and over time work on short notice - Intermediate user PC skills - Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident. Students sponsored through Optical Practical Training (OPT) or Curricular Practical Training (CPT) are NOT eligible for this internship - Must be currently enrolled in a 4-year institution of higher education and pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Master's Degree in one of our desired engineering disciplines - Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) - Official transcripts must be received from your school prior to start date - Must be in good academic standing with your school Preferred Qualifications: - Knowledge of CCGT power plants or equivalent education will be considered - Effective communication skills - General knowledge of safety and environmental regulation - Proficient in AutoCAD or similar systems - Presentation skills desired - Access desired Required Skills: Mechanical skills, Troubleshooting skills, CCGT power plants Important Skills: Microsoft Office proficiency, AutoCAD proficiency Nice-to-Have Skills: General safety knowledge, PC skills, Effective communication skills, work independently
