Vista Innovative Solutions, LLC (VIS) is seeking an Ophthalmologist

Mandatory Qualifications

• Shall be physician currently licensed in at least one US state who has completed an accredited ophthalmology residency in the US and capable of examining the internal and external structure of the eyes to diagnose and treat eye diseases, eye injuries, and ocular conditions such as cataract, glaucoma, retinal detachment, optic neuritis, uveitis, color vision abnormalities, defective depth perception and refractive error.
• Shall have at least 5 years of clinical experience as well as 3 years of military experience in either ophthalmology or aerospace medicine.
• Contractor shall have basic computer skills and be able to work with internal computer programs to support aeromedical ophthalmology evaluations and be able to enter and extract data.

Highly Desired Qualifications

• Experience in research and/or experience lecturing is highly desirable.

Tasks.

• Provide the Aeromedical Consultation Service the necessary technical and scientific expertise utilized in areas including establishment/refinement and application of United States Air Force vision standards (AFI/AFMAN 48-123, Medical Standards Directory, and the Aerospace Medicine Waiver Guide) and analyzing/evaluating aircrew optical and vision appliance requirements.
• Support both clinical and aeromedical research programs in support of the ACS Ophthalmology Branch, define and describe aeromedical status, implement HIPAA requirement for patient records, and report final results of this effort.
• Support associated ophthalmologists and optometrists in research protocols including: Aeromedical Consultation Service Study/Management Groups, Refractive Surgery, Color Vision, and development of programs designed to base new vision standards on operational requirements.
• Assist in evaluee examinations and research projects. Evaluees include aircrew members and applicants referred to the Aeromedical Consultation Service, military, DoD, and civilian research study participants, and special programs.
• Review ophthalmology cases forwarded to the Aeromedical Consultation Service, receive and interpret communications, publications, directives, and administratively support the Ophthalmology Branch as necessary.
• Perform eye examinations on aircrew and aircrew applicants scheduled for evaluation at the Aeromedical Consultation Service, then prepare and present these cases at the daily morning conference.
• Provide lectures and presentations in aerospace ophthalmology and other assigned topics to the Aerospace Medicine Primary course participants, Residents in Aerospace Medicine lecture series, and other United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine courses as directed. Additionally, periodic attendance and presentations may be required, including travel to local, national and international aerospace and ophthalmologic scientific meetings. Present findings of the research performed by the Ophthalmology Branch at international aerospace and ophthalmologic scientific meetings as deemed necessary by the Ophthalmology Branch Chief.
