Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM CST
Hours: 7.5 hours/day
Position Overview
We are seeking a Transportation Permit Specialist to join a small, diverse team responsible for administering permits for oversize and overweight tractor-trailer movements. The specialist will review permit applications, evaluate routes and restrictions, ensure compliance with applicable regulations, and provide support to commercial carriers.
Key Responsibilities

Review oversize and overweight permits for accuracy and completeness.

Evaluate proposed routes and restrictions to support safe transportation throughout the state.

Review permits for compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and laws.

Respond to commercial carriers regarding permit status, updates, and related questions.

Analyze transportation and permit information to identify compliance requirements.

Support processes related to heavy-haul transportation and freight movements.

Work with transportation data and related systems.

Use permit management, routing, and other transportation software as needed.

Assist with general permit administration and operational activities.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following education/experience combinations:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; OR
-
Associate degree from an accredited college plus two years of increasingly responsible experience; OR
-
High school diploma/equivalent plus four years of increasingly responsible experience.
Preferred Qualifications

Motor carrier permit registration experience.

Customer service experience.

Experience analyzing compliance with state or federal rules, regulations, or standards.

Transportation or logistics operations experience.

Experience with freight movement and tracking.

Heavy-haul transportation or permit purchasing experience.

Data and systems experience.

Experience with permit management or permit routing software.

GIS tools experience.
