Job Description
Summary: Vilya is a computational biotechnology company creating a novel class of medicines to precisely target disease biology. They are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Intern to join their Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) team, where the intern will gain hands-on experience in analyzing and evaluating the pharmacokinetic properties of drug candidates.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize advanced liquid handling systems to generate an automated DMPK workflow
- Generate a standard operating procedure (SOP) for an automated workflow
- Utilize common lab techniques such as preparing solutions, conducting basic assays, and handling laboratory samples to support DMPK research efforts
- Contribute to the organization and operation of the DMPK lab including upkeep of lab instrumentation, supplies, day-to-day operations and adherence to EH&S rules and regulations
- Record experiments in an electronic lab notebook in a timely manner
- Regularly report and discuss research findings with peers or supervisors
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with all members of the organization
Required Qualifications:
- 3rd-4th year undergraduate students, or recent graduates in Chemistry, Biology or other relevant field
- Basic programming understanding
- Ability to use laboratory equipment (e.g., pipettes, microscopes, centrifuges)
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques, such as proper handling of cultures and sterilization procedures to prevent contamination
- Understanding of lab safety practices, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and emergency protocols
- Familiarity with handling hazardous materials (e.g., chemicals, biological agents) and understanding safety data sheets (SDS)
- Enthusiasm for a career in biotech, with an interest in innovation, research, and contributing to advancing healthcare or technology solutions
- Ability to work onsite in our South San Francisco office
