Job Description
Summary: Vilya is a computational biotechnology company focused on creating innovative medicines to target disease biology. They are seeking a motivated Summer Intern to join their Biology team in South San Francisco, where the intern will gain hands-on experience in developing and conducting in-vitro assays related to early-stage drug candidates.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize common lab techniques, conduct assays, and handle laboratory samples to support Biology research efforts
- Follow written protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) accurately
- Manage time efficiently, prioritize objectives, and record experiments in an electronic lab notebook in a timely manner
- Adherence to EH&S rules and regulations
- Contribute to experimental planning, apply analytical thinking to identify problems, and offer potential solutions
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with all members of the organization
- Regularly report and discuss research findings with peers or supervisors
Required Qualifications:
- Motivated, detail-oriented Summer Intern
- Hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical industry
- Developing and conducting in-vitro assays to evaluate the efficacy, uptake, or metabolism of early-stage drug candidates
- Utilize common lab techniques, conduct assays, and handle laboratory samples to support Biology research efforts
- Follow written protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) accurately
- Manage time efficiently, prioritize objectives, and record experiments in an electronic lab notebook in a timely manner
- Adherence to EH&S rules and regulations
- Contribute to experimental planning, apply analytical thinking to identify problems, and offer potential solutions

Preferred Qualifications:
- 3rd-4th year undergraduate students, or recent graduates in Chemistry, Biology or other relevant field
- Ability to use basic laboratory equipment (e.g., pipettes, microscopes, centrifuges)
- Previous tissue culture experience
- Familiarity with handling hazardous materials (e.g., chemicals, biological agents) and understanding safety data sheets (SDS)
- Understanding of basic lab safety practices, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and emergency protocols
- Understanding of data integrity and the importance of maintaining consistent, reproducible results
- Enthusiasm for a career in biotech, with an interest in innovation, research, and contributing to advancing healthcare or technology solutions
