As an AI & Software Engineering Intern, you will help build data and software systems that turn complex government data into trusted insights, working alongside experienced engineers to design, build, and test tools and pipelines. Responsibilities: - Collaborate with engineers and product managers to design, build, test, and document software and data systems - Contribute to backend, web, or cloud-based development depending on team needs - Design and implement data pipelines to transform large public datasets into clean, usable formats - Support the preparation of datasets for machine learning and AI-enabled features - Explore and contribute to AI initiatives such as LLM-powered tools, RAG systems, or agent-based workflows - Monitor system performance, data quality, and reliability across applications and pipelines - Learn and apply modern development practices (version control, testing, debugging, CI/CD) Required Qualifications: - Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, Data Science, or a related field - Strong programming foundation (Python required; JavaScript/TypeScript a plus) - Familiarity with databases and SQL - Interest in both software development and data systems - Curiosity about AI/ML and how data powers intelligent products - Comfort working across different layers of the stack, from data pipelines to product features Required Skills: Python Important Skills: JavaScript, SQL, Data pipelines Nice-to-Have Skills: AI/ML curiosity Benefits: ORCA card for transportation to and from work or parking in/near the building.
