Job Description
Summary: Urban Science is a company that empowers clients to turn overwhelming industry data into discovery and success. The Software Engineering Intern will support software design and implementation, including developing and testing features for future applications and supporting existing applications.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and test new functionality, with general supervision regarding methodology and approach
- Work in a team environment to create and verify web applications, interfaces, and web services that meet and exceed customer’s needs and expectations
- Participate in application/solution design, code reviews and evaluation of the functionality against the client’s needs (user stories)
- Develop testing algorithms for validating functionality
- Create and review technical designs
- Participate in release planning by providing estimates and design input
- Support and continuously improve iterative software development processes and procedures
- Work towards target deadlines that are in accordance with the release dates
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrate experience with software development and testing methodologies, in an internship, collegiate, or Capstone project
- Currently pursuing a Baccalaureate degree in an appropriate IT field such as Computer Science or Computer Engineering from an accredited U.S. college or university, equivalent foreign institution, or equivalent experience
- Ability to understand a situation by breaking it apart into smaller pieces, and/or tracing the implications of a situation in a step-by-step causal way
- Ability to analyze requirements to determine how applications function to build effective designs and tests
- Ability to learn and follow Urban Science's Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and/or customers
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and be part of a team
- Ability to develop business awareness and understanding of the business requirements of IT
- Ability to behave in a trustworthy and transparent manner
- Ability to monitor and check work deliverables ensuring high quality, accuracy and having a strong attention to detail
- Ability to compose and verbally deliver information of varying levels
- Ability to communicate ideas, facts and data in writing
- Ability to prioritize competing demands, manage multiple concurrent tasks and adapt to changing priorities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with, or desire and ability to learn web languages and tools such as HTML, CSS, JQuery, JavaScript and Bootstrap
- Familiarity with languages such as C#, MVC5, ASP.NET, WCF, and SQL
- Familiarity with tools such as Visual Studio (VS), Azure DevOps
- Familiarity with web service technology
- Familiarity with unit, integration, and exploratory testing
- Microsoft certifications are a plus
