Technical Trainer - BAS at Unify Energy Solutions in Houston, TX

About Unify Energy Solutions

Founded in 2013, Unify Energy Solutions is a Houston-based building automation and energy management company dedicated to delivering innovative solutions and exceptional customer service. We specialize in building management systems (BMS), HVAC controls, and integrated building technologies. At Unify, we believe our success comes from our people, their experience, and their willingness to share knowledge. We invest in developing our employees and customers through hands-on training, technical support, and continuous learning.

Are you an experienced building automation or HVAC controls professional who enjoys helping others learn? Are you ready to take your years of field experience and use them to develop the next generation of technicians and industry professionals?

Unify Energy Solutions is looking for a knowledgeable, personable, and motivated Building Automation Technical Trainer to join our Houston team. We're not necessarily looking for someone who has spent their career teaching. We're looking for someone who knows the building automation industry, understands how HVAC systems and controls work together, and has a genuine passion for helping people succeed. The ideal candidate may be an experienced BAS technician, controls specialist, systems integrator, service technician, or field supervisor who is interested in transitioning into a training and development role.

If you have years of hands-on experience and enjoy sharing what you've learned, we want to talk to you.

We value real-world industry experience, technical knowledge, and people skills over formal degrees or previous teaching experience.

What You'll Do:

• Curriculum Development & Instruction: Design and deliver engaging, hands-on technical training on building automation fundamentals, HVAC systems, Direct Digital Controls (DDC), networking, BAS hardware/software, and troubleshooting for employees and customers.
• Product & Integration Expertise: Develop coursework on BACnet, third-party system integration, and interoperability; gain and deliver mastery in Reliable Controls products (WebView, RC-Studio, RC-Tool).
• Hands-on Learning & Lab Management: Build training materials, exercises, demonstration hardware, and practical lab environments that teach systems-level thinking and real-world problem solving.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Engineering, Service, Construction, and Tech Support to assess skills gaps and keep training aligned with evolving technologies and industry practices.
• Mentorship & Support: Foster a positive learning environment to coach technicians, build confidence, and strengthen troubleshooting capabilities.

What We're Looking For:

Note: Deep building automation and HVAC expertise is essential; prior formal teaching experience is not required.

• Core Technical Expertise: Strong hands-on experience in BAS, HVAC controls, DDC, and control sequences (AHUs, VAVs, chillers, boilers, RTUs).
• Networking & Integration: Working knowledge of BACnet, BAS networking, third-party interfaces, and system-level integration.
• Troubleshooting & Mechanics: Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex, real-world BAS issues and explain how mechanical components, devices, and software interact.
• Communication & Mentorship: Patient, approachable communicator with a passion for knowledge sharing, coaching others, and breaking down complex technical concepts.
• Initiative & Growth: Self-motivated mindset with a drive to continuously improve training programs and learn new technologies and instructional techniques.

Additional Experience That Sets You Apart:

• Experience teaching, mentoring, supervising, or creating technical documentation and training materials.
• Direct experience with Reliable Controls or other major BAS platforms (Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Tridium Niagara, etc.).
• Relevant technical certifications, trade credentials, or formal technical education.

A college degree and professional training experience are not required. Your industry knowledge, attitude, and ability to connect with people matter most.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

Transition your field expertise into a impactful, high-value training role:

• Build & Shape Programs: Help design and expand Unify's technical curriculum rather than just delivering existing material.
• Develop the Next Generation: Drive long-term growth for both Unify employees and customers by mentoring emerging BAS professionals.
• Stay Technical: Remain deeply connected to cutting-edge building automation technologies within a collaborative, growth-focused culture.
• Balanced Lifestyle: Enjoy a stable, office-based weekday schedule away from the physical demands of daily field service and construction.

We're looking for someone who has a passion for the building automation industry, enjoys people, and wants to make a lasting impact by sharing what they know.

If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
