Job Description
Summary: UC San Diego is among the leading otolaryngology centers in the country, offering career opportunities in clinical services, educational programs, and research. The Otolaryngology Research Associate will support research projects focused on head and neck disorders, including patient recruitment and data management.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive administrative support for research projects aimed at disorders that impact the head and neck region
- Patient recruitment, protocol management, tracking study participants, data management and assistance with budget and resource management
- Work with a number of physician scientists who are leaders in their respective field
Required Qualifications:
- Theoretical knowledge of a life science in a field related to the research being conducted. Related fields may include any of the following fields of study: Engineering (Biomedical, chemical, electrical, and mechanical), molecular biology, computer science, or related disciplines
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) needed to interact professionally and effectively in the work environment, as well as effectively and accurately document research procedures
- Demonstrated ability to read, comprehend and discuss research materials
- Demonstrated ability to assist in the writing of papers for publication and research proposals
- Ability to coordinate studies with the lab and other departments
- Demonstrated skill to plan and organize work assignments in an efficient and productive manner
- Willingness to learn new techniques and tasks
- Ability to read, interpret and apply protocols in conducting research
- Demonstrated ability to follow experimental protocols
- Demonstrated skill to troubleshoot adaptations of experimental protocols
- Demonstrated skill in accurate record keeping and ability to organize, analyze, and calculate data
- Excellent organizational skills to order and maintain lab equipment and supplies
- Experience with general lab maintenance, including cleaning and restocking supplies
- Experience working and maintaining a sterile environment
- Enthusiasm for learning and a genuine interest in scientific research
- Willingness and ability to learn new skills, research methods, and scientific principles
- Demonstrated effective time management skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of UCSD Environmental Health and Safety requirements
- Ability to write with correct syntax and grammar to clearly communicate ideas and protocols in writing to EH&S
