Job Description
Summary: Tutor Me Education is revolutionizing the way students learn, and they are seeking passionate teachers and tutors with special education experience. The role involves providing personalized, one-on-one tutoring to students with special needs in their homes, focusing on academic support and tailored instruction based on Individualized Education Plans (IEP).
Responsibilities:
- Conduct an initial assessment to determine current academic levels and test readiness
- Provide targeted test preparation for HiSET/GED, including review of core subjects and test-taking strategies
- Teach and reinforce executive functioning skills, including organization, planning, time management, and task completion
- Break down assignments and test content into manageable steps to reduce overwhelm
- Provide consistent academic encouragement to build confidence, persistence, and independence
- Implement structured sessions with flexibility to adapt based on student engagement and needs
- Use positive reinforcement and gentle redirection to maintain focus and motivation
- Incorporate student interests (e.g., video games, sports, social activities) to increase engagement
- Support development of study habits and strategies for long-term academic success
- Maintain a supportive, patient, and motivating learning environment
- Communicate progress with caregivers and adjust strategies as needed
Required Qualifications:
- special education experience
- Experience working with high school or transitional students with ASD, ADHD, and/or mental health needs
- Background in test preparation (HiSET, GED, or similar high school equivalency exams)
- Strong understanding of executive functioning skills, including organization, time management, and task persistence
- Skilled in motivating students with low confidence and supporting engagement
- Patient, upbeat, and encouraging, with a “bubbly” and engaging personality
- Ability to build rapport with reserved or hesitant learners
- Experience providing structured yet flexible instruction tailored to individual needs
- Comfortable conducting an academic assessment to guide instruction
