Assistant Dean, Academic Affairs
Location: New Orleans, LA, United States
The Assistant Dean for Academics in the School of Social Work leads a team of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs staff that coordinate day-to-day academic operations and student support. This position works closely with Associate Deans and Program Directors on school-wide issues of academic and student affairs. This position manages the implementation of regular assessment and program review processes for program and university accreditation processes. This position demands a strategic and tactical leader and faculty partner dedicated to implementing the future of social work education, focusing on strategic design, creative problem-solving, and collaboration to advance the academic mission of the Tulane School of Social Work.
The Assistant Dean is responsible for the development and management of comprehensive advising strategies to promote academic success and student wellness. This position works directly with graduate students facing complex academic situations and those in need of advanced advising and support.

- Exceptional organizational and time management skills with demonstrative ability to plan, coordinate, prioritize, and effectively manage multiple initiatives, programs, and events, and meet established deadlines.

- Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information and conform to the highest ethical standards.
- Ability to analyze problematic situations, identify feasible solutions, and present recommendations in a concise, logical, and systematic manner while anticipating potential issues and consequences of the decisions made and actions taken.
- Knowledge of the principles and methods for curricular design and assessment of learning outcomes
- Knowledge of student development and enrollment management theories and contemporary advising practices.
NCAA Related:
Ensures that all Department of Athletics and University-related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department’s efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations. Seeks interpretations from the compliance staff before acting when necessary. Reports potential rules violations immediately. Completes required compliance paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors all of their areas and/or program activities closely to maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree with 10 years of directly related experience
Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Social Work, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field
- Experience with Banner, Salesforce, Slate, and other student services technology
- Experience with budget oversight, ideally with multiple budgets
- Experience with Social Work education
- Experience with assessment and accreditation processes.
